As the Olympics wind down halfway across the world in Beijing, there is a handful of gold medals left to be handed out. In the snowboarding category, one of the most popular events of the games, women’s big air, finishes tonight in what should be an electric final between 12 of the world’s best.
Let’s take a closer look at the field tonight going off at Big Air Shougang.
Zoi Sadowski-Synnott [NZL]| -125 at DK Sportsbook
Already the owner of one gold medal from these games, Sadowski-Synnott took home slopestyle gold last week and looks to take home another tonight. At just 20 years old, the New Zealander is known for her double 1080 melon grab and backside 1080, two tricks that helped land her in this final during the qualifier.
While slopestyle had historically been her better event, Sadowski-Synnott secured gold in Big Air in the 2022 X-Games and looks poised to do so in Beijing. She also comes into this final with high-level Olympic experience, earning a bronze in the 2018 games in Pyeongchang.
Despite being just 20 years old, I don’t expect the moment to be too big for Sadowski-Synnott. After dominating the qualifying round, she may have just been getting started with tricks up her sleeve for these games.
Miyabi Onitsuka [JPN] | +700 at DK Sportsbook
At just 23 years old, Onitsuka is the elder of the Japanese snowboarding duo (and Reira Iwabuchi, 20) that will be competing for gold tonight. Still looking to land one in the Olympic competition, Onitsuka is the only woman on the planet to have landed a cab double 1260 in competition, which she did in the 2020 X-Games.
With two silvers and a gold in the X-Games, Onitsuka is making her Olympic debut this year and looks poised to make a big splash. Don’t be surprised if that splash comes in the form of a gold medal tonight.
