Only one month remains between now and the end of the 2021-22 La Liga regular season, as teams continue to jockey for position at the top and bottom of the table. This week, the games begin in the early hours of Friday morning (United States), stretching all the way until Monday.
Let’s take a closer look at two teams I have my eye on in this week’s slate.

Saturday
Real Madrid vs. Espanyol, 8:00 AM, EST
Currently sitting a clear 15 points ahead of their next closest competitor (Barcelona) on the table with 78 total points, Real Madrid can wrap up the league title with four games remaining with a win and some help on Saturday. It would not only give them their second title in the past two seasons but their fourth in the last decade, one more than Barcelona over that same span.
If their recent form is any indication, as I suspect it might be, expect to see just that. Coming into the week, Real Madrid has won four straight and eight of their past nine, racking up a goal differential of +12 in their past 10 games. It’s also worth noting that their goal differential of +40 on the season is a clear 12 goals ahead of the next closest (Barcelona).
Their competition on Saturday, who will be coming to Madrid for this game, has fared quite differently this spring. Over their last four games, Espanyol has lost three, accruing a goal differential of -2 over that span in some close contest games. While Raul de Tomas has had 16 goals on the season as the 27-year-old has turned into one of the better young strikes in La Liga, this week’s competition is taking a step up.
Look for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema to slot in his 40th goal of the season this week as the team takes one step closer to raising the league’s trophy in the coming weeks.
