Seattle Mariners (-120) at Baltimore Orioles (+102) | O/U 9.0 (-102/-120)
Starting Pitchers: Logan Gilbert vs. Trevor Rogers
Logan Gilbert is a rock-solid pitcher. According to FanGraphs, he has a 3.79 ERA, 4.06 xERA, 3.59 xFIP and 3.42 SIERA in 13 starts this season. His ERA estimators are a mixed bag, but they largely support his 3.79 ERA.
Gilbert has also been lights-out his first time through the order this season - 2.67 ERA and 2.01 xFIP. Furthermore, he has a 2.49 ERA and 2.94 xFIP in his first time through the order as a starter in his career.
One might think Gilbert kicks the door down to begin. Instead, he’s routinely stubbed his toe. Gilbert has allowed a run in the first inning in six of his 13 starts this season. Per Baseball-Reference, Gilbert has allowed 17 hits, a .903 OPS, eight runs and tallied a 5.54 ERA in the first inning in 2026.
Gilbert also has a challenging matchup. Four of Baltimore’s top five projected hitters have recorded at least a 108 wRC+ against righties since 2024. In addition, four of those hitters have amassed at least a 119 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers this season.
Trevor Rogers has crashed back to Earth after a career year in 2025. He has a 6.29 ERA, 4.37 xERA, 4.79 xFIP and 4.73 SIERA in 11 starts. Rogers has, admittedly, thrown a scoreless first inning in eight of those starts.
Nevertheless, Rogers has pitched poorly this season, and he has a difficult assignment. It’s unclear who will replace J.P. Crawford in the top five of Seattle’s lineup. He batted leadoff in their last matchup against a lefty but is now on the injured list (IL).
Still, Julio Rodriguez (130 wRC+), Randy Arozarena (123 wRC+), Josh Naylor (104 wRC+) and Rob Refsnyder (133 wRC+) will likely be among the hitters in Seattle’s top five, and they’ve hammered lefties since 2024. There’s enough offensive firepower and blemishes in the profiles for the starting pitchers to back the YRFI side.
Pick: YRFI (EVEN)
Washington Nationals (-104) at San Francisco Giants (-112) | O/U 8.5 (-105/-115)
Starting Pitchers: Andrew Alvarez vs. Adrian Houser
Andrew Alvarez has made six appearances, but only one start. Despite the benefit of working out of the bullpen, the lefty has a mediocre 3.54 ERA and 4.77 xERA.
Alvarez threw a scoreless first inning in his only start, but his unimpressive numbers this year open the door to him stumbling in the first inning tonight, albeit in a favorable matchup against the Giants. However, Casey Schmitt could give him trouble from the leadoff spot, as he boasts a 121 wRC+ in 239 plate appearances against lefties since 2024.
Adrian Houser is the more likely starter to cough up a run, though. Houser has allowed a run in the first inning in eight of his 12 starts in 2026, including back-to-back outings. Houser has allowed 13 runs, a 1.067 OPS and an 8.25 ERA in the first inning in his 12 starts this season.
Houser hasn’t had any answers for lefties. He’s permitted a .391 wOBA to 435 of them since last year. Houser will have his hands full off the jump tonight, as James Wood has a 141 wRC+ against righties since 2024.
Luis Garcia Jr. and CJ Abrams are also left-handed batters Houser will likely have to contend with, projecting to hit second and cleanup, respectively. Garcia has a 110 wRC+ against righties since 2024, and Abrams has a 122 wRC+.
Houser is unlikely to avoid his first-inning woes against some potent left-handed batters at the top of Washington’s order. The Giants and Nationals should combine for a YRFI.
Pick: YRFI (-113)
