Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
- Leg 1: Diamondbacks Moneyline (-218)
- Leg 2: Tomoyuki Sugano Over 5.5 Hits Allowed (-155)
- Leg 3: Ildemaro Vargas Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-137)
- Leg 4: Corbin Carroll Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-173)
- Leg 5: Michael Soroka Under 2.5 Earned Runs (-152)
Let's lead off our same-game parlays with a National League West matchup. The Colorado Rockies enter tonight with the worst record in the National League. Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks are hot lately, winning nine of their last 12 games. Let's back the home squad to keep it going, with some player props added in.
Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano has a shaky 4.02 ERA this season, and his 7.22 xERA and 5.49 FIP are even worse. The right-hander also has many concerning advanced stats.
Sugano is allowing a bottom-2% barrel rate (15.5%), a bottom-12% hard-hit rate (46.5%) and a bottom-2% xBA (.310 xBA). Then there's the 12.8% strikeout rate and 17% whiff rate, which rank in the bottom 5% of the league.
Sugano now has to face an Arizona offense that's crushing righties lately - a league-high .329 batting average and .394 wOBA against right-handers over the last week. Sugano just allowed seven hits to the Diamondbacks in his latest start. He's also giving up an average of 5.8 hits per game over his past six outings.
Ildemaro Vargas and Corbin Carroll are two Arizona hitters who can anchor the offense today. Vargas has a .325 batting average, which ranks third among all qualified MLB hitters. He's been a spark plug for the Diamondbacks all season. The switch-hitter can get on base multiple times and should have plenty of opportunities to score runs or knock some in.
As for Carroll, he's swinging a hot bat after starting the season slowly. The star outfielder has a .348 batting average and 1.191 OPS over the past 13 games. He's also gone over 1.5 combined hits + runs + RBIs in nine straight games. He now faces a pitcher in Sugano who is allowing a .282 batting average and .939 OPS to left-handed hitters.
Meanwhile, Arizona starter Michael Soroka should keep Colorado’s offense in check. The right-hander has a decent 3.49 ERA this season, but that number is inflated because of one bad start in which he allowed eight runs on the road to Milwaukee. If we take that out, Soroka boasts an excellent 2.15 ERA across his eight other outings. Plus, his 2.97 FIP is very encouraging.
Soroka will face a Rockies lineup that's struggled against right-handed pitching lately. In the split over the past two weeks, they have a league-low 60 wRC+ with a .277 wOBA (26th) and .219 batting average (24th). Plus, Colorado's 27.4% strikeout rate on the road this season is the highest in the Majors. It sets up well for Soroka, who owns a stellar 1.59 ERA across five home starts.
Parlay Odds: +425
Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels
- Leg 1: Rangers Moneyline (-156)
- Leg 2: Jacob deGrom Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-120)
- Leg 3: Jacob deGrom Under 4.5 Hits Allowed (-127)
- Leg 4: Josh Jung Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-138)
Let's now turn our attention to a divisional showdown in the American League West. The Texas Rangers have a few notable edges over the Los Angeles Angels ahead of tonight's game. Let's back the visitors to get the win behind a strong Jacob deGrom outing. Plus, the offense gets a favorable matchup.
We've seen a couple of shaky starts from deGrom lately. However, the veteran has been mostly dominant, while still boasting a 3.02 ERA and 0.91 WHIP this season. He's allowed one or zero runs in six of his last eight starts as well.
Plus, deGrom has some elite advanced metrics to trust. He has a 31% strikeout rate (94th percentile) and a 4.1% walk rate (97th percentile). The Rangers right-hander also brings in a 33.1% whiff rate (92nd percentile) and 35.3% chase rate (88th). That swing-and-miss stuff will play well against Los Angeles today.
The Angels have the highest strikeout rate in the Majors against right-handed pitching (26.2%). They're also batting a league-low .217 in the split. Over the past two weeks, the offense recorded a 26.6% strikeout rate and a .179 batting average versus righties. It sets up well for deGrom, who is averaging 4.2 hits allowed and 6.8 strikeouts per start thus far.
On the other side, Grayson Rodriguez gets the ball for Los Angeles. The righty got roughed up in his season debut last week against the Dodgers, allowing seven runs on seven hits in just 3.2 innings. He'll face a Texas lineup that has a .320 wOBA and 104 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this year, ranking 12th and 11th in the league, respectively.
One hitter who can lead the charge against Rodriguez is Josh Jung. He's batting .326 with an .869 OPS against right-handed pitching this season. He's also gone over 1.5 combined hits + runs + RBIs in 21 of the last 31 games, while batting .341 with a .945 OPS during that stretch.
Parlay Odds: +440
