Cincinnati Reds (+215) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (-260) O/U 8.5
(First Pitch 1:38 p.m. ET)
The Reds are on a rebuild, and with a very young lineup, they're going to go through some rough times. Right now, they are the worst team in the league at 11-28 and are either last or close to last in every category.
Cincinnati's No. 6 Graham Ashcroft will make his major league debut. This season, he went 3-1 with a 1.65 ERA in seven starts for Triple-A Louisville.
He is going to be thrown into the deep end right away facing Toronto's impressive lineup. While it hasn't lived up to expectations this season, they certainly have the ability to put up runs on any day.
Yusei Kikuchi has been one of Toronto’s better starters this season, as he’s behind Alex Monoah with a 3.38 ERA and leads the team with 5.9 hits per nine. Kikuchi does have control problems though, as he’s allowing 5.6 walks per nine. Cincinnati is average this season in walk rate, so they will need to work the count if they want to try and put runners on base.
You still have to give the Jays the advantage going against a rookie pitcher.
Leg 2: Blue Jays ML
Los Angeles Dodgers (-138) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (+118) O/U 9.5
(First Pitch 1:36 p.m. ET)
The Dodgers with all the hype are definitely delivering, as they sit in first place in the NL West. They do have some stiff competition within the division, as they are currently just a game up on the Padres. With being one of the best lineups and rotations in the league, they certainly have the advantage as the season moves forward.
Tony Gonsolin is one of the Dodgers' best pitchers in the league's best pitching staff. He's leading the team with a 1.64 ERA and 5.2 hits per nine. He's getting better at balancing his pitches and getting ahead with the fastball, then he drops the slider or split-finger to put them away.
The Phillies’ lineup is really good, as they're top 10 in runs per game (4.51), fourth in batting average (.250), and seventh in isolated power (.163). Unfortunately, the pitching hasn't held up their end; they're 21st in ERA (3.94) and hits per nine (8.12).
The Phillies will send up Zach Eflin, who's pitching well this season, but looking at his history against the Dodgers, it’s not pretty. Trea Turner is hitting .286 against him with two home runs, Max Muncy has four hits with two home runs in eight at-bats, along with Cody Bellinger and Freddie Freeman also having a pair of homers.
Too many players in this lineup that have gone deep against Eflin in the bandbox that is Citizens Bank means a big win for L.A.
Leg 2: Dodgers ML
Chicago White Sox (+154) vs. New York Yankees -184) O/U 9
(First Pitch 3:06 p.m. ET)
Today, as the Yankees and White Sox play two in the Bronx, this could get interesting, as tensions grew between these two teams on Saturday, forcing a bench-clearing altercation.
Johnny Cueto will make his second start after spending the beginning of the season in the White Sox farm system.
He had a great debut against the team he won a World Series with, as he pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven. He looked great in that start — his fastball was elevating, the sinker slider had that late movement, and of course, those signature different deliveries that will mess with a hitter's timing.
The Royals are certainly not the Yankees as he'll go from facing a bottom-tier offense to one of the best power-hitting offenses in the league. D.J. LeMahieu, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo are familiar with Cueto from their time in the National League; D.J. is hitting .343 against Cueto while Stanton is batting .417 with three home runs.
Luis Severino will be on the mound, and he's looked solid in his first year back as a regular in the starting rotation. He had his best outing of the season in his last start against the Orioles where he pitched six innings and his only blemish was a solo shot off a slider that was really good, but Anthony Santander just reached below the zone and put a good barrel on it.
It’s really tough right now to bet against the Yankees and the way they're hitting. Having Stanton and LeMahieu at the top of the lineup against a pitcher they hit well will set the tone for this offense.
Leg 3: Yankees ML
