Prior to the season starting, the New York Mets had odds of +325 to win the National League East. Currently, they have odds of +290 according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which lowered from +270 after slugger Yoenis Cespedes opted out of the 2020 season. (FanDuel Sportsbook)

Betting Impact:

It is somewhat surprising that New York's odds did not plummet further after Cespedes's opt-out. At 3-7, the Mets are currently just a half-game better than the Pittsburgh Pirates who own the worst record in baseball. The +290 odds are tied for second with the Washington Nationals. The Atlanta Braves seemed to be the biggest beneficiaries of the Cespedes news. They have seen their odds lower from +180 to +175 to win the NL East division.
