The 23-1 Winthrop Eagles are seen by many as a dangerous lower-seeded team, but are still 6.5-point underdogs against the fifth-seeded Villanova Wildcats, per BettingPros consensus odds.

Betting Impact:

Every year, No. 5 vs. No. 12 upsets happen in the NCAA tournament, and many bettors think this game is a prime candidate for it to happen this year. Winthrop is one of the most heavily bet underdogs thus far, receiving 69% of the bets and 76% of the money thus far, per FanDuel Sportsbook. Villanova has been thought of as a team to be dismissed ever since a season-ending injury to senior point guard Collin Gillespie. Villanova has lost the two games they have played without Gillespie by a combined three points. As a result of the one-sided betting action thus far, sportsbooks will be rooting for the favorites for a change in this matchup.
