2019 U.S. Open Prop Bets to Target

The 119th running of the U.S. Open will take place at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California, widely regarded as the best public golf course in the world. It will be the seventh major and sixth U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, which last hosted U.S. Open’s in 2000 and 2010. Here are some of the prop bets that I will be targeting heading into this week’s tournament.

Ian Poulter (-110) vs. Bubba Watson
Forgive my lack of patriotism here, but I will be fading Bubba Watson in nearly every prop category this week. Watson is a fine player, but he only seems to conquer tournaments where he openly raves about the course. He holds 12 total wins on the PGA Tour, eight of which have come at three courses. He is a confidence player, and he always seems to struggle at the U.S. Open. He has missed the cut in four out of the last five U.S. Open’s, while Poulter has made the cut in five out of the last six U.S. Open’s. Poulter ranks 24th on Tour in Greens in Regulation Percentage and 45th in Strokes Gained: Around the Green, two wildly important statistics at this course.

Chaz Reavie +2000 to place in the Top 10
Okay, hear me out. You have probably never heard of Chaz Reavie before if you are a casual fan. But his game actually sets up really well at this course. He ranks second on Tour in driving accuracy percentage, 26th on Tour in Strokes Gained: Approach, fourth on Tour in Approaches from 150-175 yards, which is a critically important metric since a lot of the approach shots will fall within this distance at this course. And, oh yeah, he also placed second at the 2018 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at -14. I will also be targeting him in a plethora of head-to-head match-ups.

Brandt Snedeker (-115) vs. Shane Lowry
Snedeker is a perfect fit for Pebble Beach. He has always performed far better on poa annua greens compared to any other putting surface, which is why he chalks up so many top-10 finishes when he plays in tournaments based in California. He is a two-time winner at Pebble Beach and is fresh off a whopping round of 60 in last week’s Canadian Open. Sneds also has four top-10 showings in his last eight U.S. Open appearances, so confidence should be at an all-time high heading into this week’s tournament.
