2021 NFL Draft Prop Bets: DeVonta Smith Draft Position

We are now just days away from the fate of 32 NFL teams potentially being decided indefinitely as teams will draft their first-round selection. Even as the season winds down to its final weeks in the NBA and NHL, the sports-viewing public, and their dollars, are currently focused on the NFL Draft betting market.

One prop bet that has increased in popularity is the draft position of individual players. This bet allows bettors to wager on if a player will go over or under a pre-selected draft position.

Let’s take a look at one player’s posted number and see where the value remains.

DeVonta Smith Draft Position Over/Under 11.5

One of just four wide receivers to ever win the Heisman Trophy, including being the first since 1991, Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith is as complete a package as they come in the college ranks. Following up a 2019 season where he largely played second fiddle to Jerry Jeudy, Smith went berzerk on the way to the Crimson’s Tide 2020 CFP Championship run.

Finishing with 116 receptions (avg. 15.9), 1,856 yards, and 23 touchdowns, Smith was a must-watch every time he touched the ball. In addition to being electric with the ball, Smith showed a willingness to block downfield; a quality much-coveted at the next level.

As far as where he goes on Thursday, the wide receiver room is certainly crowded. Some expect Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle to go higher than Smith, but there’s a team in the top 11 I think has their eyes on the 6’1″ Smith.

While there’s certainly needs across the board, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones still needs a de facto number one. Reported to be “enamored” with Smith, Giants GM Dave Gettleman is said to have his eyes on the Alabama product with the 11th overall pick.

In addition, new head coach Joe Judge has an Alabama connection from his time as an assistant there in 2009-11, and Saban is known for getting his guys drafted via those types of links. Even if Chase and Waddle are on the board at 11, I like the Giants to scoop up the elusive Smith and for him to make the starting 11 by September.

Pick: Under 11.5 (+100)
