2022 AT&T Byron Nelson: Betting Guide, Odds, & Predictions (PGA)

A week after Max Home brought home the Wells Fargo Championship following a rainy week outside of DC, the Tour heads to Dallas, TX, for the Byron Nelson, and high-level field is in tow. Last year, KH Lee won his first Tour event with a record -25, illustrating how much of a scoring course this truly is.

With the likes of Justin Thomas (+900), Scottie Scheffler (+700), and Dustin Johnson (+1800) in this week’s field, will another first-time winner emerge? Let’s take a closer look at the course and one golfer I am keyed in on for this weekend’s event.

Course Preview: TPC Craig Ranch

This weekend, we are back with another TPC course, TPC Craig Ranch, just outside Dallas, TX. Designed by Tom Weiskopf, who also led the re-design for TPC Scottsdale, TPC Craig Ranch is described as a bomber’s course, coming in at over 7,400 yards with wide-open fairways that these guys will devour all week long.

With the long hitters having the primary advantage here, guys that can strike the green will have a field day on this course, as the top six in last year’s field were all top 20 in Greens in Regulation on Tour. With Bentgrass, the green surface of choice, the greens will run true and leave great putters plenty of looks.

Outright Betting Picks

Sam Burns (+2000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
With only one year’s history here at TPC Craig Ranch, there isn’t a ton to go off of in terms of track record and how these guys might perform with just four (at most) laps around this track. However, in the limited history we do have, Sam Burns likes this course just fine. Shooting a -22 in last year’s edition, including a Friday 62, Burns finished in second place in his debut.

Coming into this week, #10 in the Official World Golf Rankings and #2 in the FedEx Rankings, Burns has been on a tear lately, finishing in the top 10 in three of his past fives, including a win at the Valspar.

He also ranks top 30 on Tour in driving distance (#29), GIR % (10th), and birdie average (7th), three metrics critical for success here. Add in that Burns is one of the top players (11th) on Tour in SG: Approach coming into this week, and I would like the 25-year-old to be in contention again come Sunday in Texas.
