2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship: Best Longshot Picks & Predictions

With THE CJ CUP in the rearview mirror, we look forward to this week’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship in Southampton, Bermuda. For the fourth straight year, Port Royal Golf Club will host this event.

Looking at the top of each of the previous three leaderboards, the metrics that predict the most success at this course include SG: Putting and Scrambling. A par 71, 6,828-yard track, Port Royal is a short course where most players do not have issues getting to/around the green but are separated by the ability to finish off every hole strong.

Below, I will give out my two best longshot bets to win the 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

Adam Long (+4000): 0.2u

The first golfer we target this week is Adam Long, who sits at 40/1. A fantastic putter and up-and-down player, this course sets up perfectly for Long.

Making each of his last two cuts this season, Long looks to continue his momentum this week against a very watered-down field. On TOUR this season, he ranks second in SG: Putting which is the reason he posted a T30 finish at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

This strong putting is not an outlier due to a small sample size. Last season, Long ranked 24th on TOUR in SG: Putting and 17th in Scrambling. Even though Long only finished T53 at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP two weeks ago, he was excellent through the first three rounds before his Sunday meltdown.

As I just mentioned, the field this week is extremely watered-down while the season continues to get underway, which makes Long arguably the best putter at the event. All he needs is to continue to stay hot on the greens and he will be in the conversation on Sunday.

Brice Garnett (+10000): 0.1u

Another golfer we are backing this week is Luke List, who is listed at a whopping 100/1. We are getting such a large number here partly because Garnett is rarely ever at the top of leaderboards, but there is perhaps no better opportunity than to do so this week against a poor field.

On TOUR this season, Garnett ranks 11th in SG: Putting after a solid start to the campaign with two straight made cuts at the Fortinet Championship and Sanderson Farms Championship. Another great up-and-down player, Garnett finished last year ranked 25th on TOUR in Scrambling.

Due to his strong putting and scrambling abilities, Garnett finished 21st at this event in 2020. While Garnett is rarely at the top of leaderboards, he has scored well against water-downed fields.

Last year, he finished T7 at the Puerto Rico Open and T16 at the Barracuda Championship. In an event where putting and scrambling are rewarded, It is not inconceivable that Garnett is inside the top 20 entering Sunday, which makes 100/1 an intriguing proposition.

Other Outright Winner Plays:

  • Denny McCarthy (14/1): 0.4u
  • Seamus Power (25/1): 0.3u

Best of luck!
