2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open PGA Tour Odds, Picks & Predictions
The PGA Tour is back in the United States, in the heart of Texas, after two stops over the previous two weeks in Bermuda and Mexico.
This week, the newly renamed 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open on the PGA Tour will be held at Memorial Park Golf Course. Three of the top 15 golfers in the world, including No. 2 Scottie Scheffler, will battle for the $8.4 million prize pool and a $1.5 million top prize. Jason Kokrak, the reigning champion, won’t be present as he has since defected to LIV Golf.

Course Preview: Memorial Park Municipal Golf Course
Memorial Park is a municipal golf course that, in 2020, held a PGA Tour event for the first time since 1963. Coming in at 7,412 yards, the Par 70 has five par 3 holes and three par 5 holes and is entirely made of bermudagrass. Players can anticipate hard, quick playing surfaces with distinct greens that have many undulations, short-grass runoffs, and misleading fronts. After its first two iterations here, Memorial Park played almost a full stroke over par, highlighting the value of having a complete game.
Although the course is primarily flat parkland, Tom Doak did an excellent job of including opportunities for irregular lays in the fairways and in the short-grass areas surrounding the greens. The front nine also provides a degree of grandeur that is unexpected until you see it for yourself thanks to the exposed ravine that runs through it. Due to rain during the first two years of the competition, some holes had favored lying and there were lots of mudballs in the rough and around the greens. The weather is worth noting as Friday currently has rain in the forecast throughout the day.

You have to go all the way back to 2018 since Jason Day last found a win on Tour, but something seems to be “back†with the Aussie. With the distance always there, Day has become dialed again on his accuracy, which includes an approach game that is back to the top of the Tour.
In his four starts this season, Day has finished T21 or better in three, all three coming in the past month. He also has some success here at Memorial, making the cut in both appearances, and finishing solo 7th in 2020. If the putter can get going, Day should be a serious threat come Sunday.
