2022 Mayakoba Golf Classic PGA Tour Odds, Picks & Predictions

The El Camaleon Golf Course serves as the host once again for the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico on Thursday. With a higher-than-average total purse, the field will feature a terrific mix of seasoned champions and rising stars anxious to make their mark on the PGA Tour this season.  It’s also worth noting that the winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points, as notable champions like Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa are anticipated to be in contention.

Scheffler and Viktor Hovland, the back-to-back defending champion, are listed as the +900 and +1000, respectively, co-favorites in the most recent odds. They are then followed by Tony Finau (+1400), Morikawa (+1800), Billy Horschel (+1600), and Aaron Wise (+1600).

Let’s take a closer look at how this one might play out south of the border.

Previous Winners of the Mayakoba Golf Classic

  • 2021: Viktor Hovland
  • 2020: Viktor Hovland
  • 2019: Brendan Todd

Course Preview: El Camaleon Golf Club

El Cameleon Golf Club is a resort-style course that comes in at just over 7,000 yards, well short of the weekly average on Tour. The Par 71 course is set directly near the ocean in Mayaboka, Mexico, making wind a factor throughout the week.

The Par 4s favor players who are dialed from 150 yards or less, and the Par 3s are also well below average in terms of yardage. Being shorter, the fairways are also difficult to hit-making accurate drivers worth a look.

Tom Hoge (+3000 on DraftKings Sportsbook

One player flying under the radar this week is Tom Hoge, as the PGA Tour veteran has been playing some terrific golf. Shooting 70 or better now in 10 straight rounds, Hoge has finished T13 or higher in each start (4) so far this season, including two top 10s.

Hoge also has some success here at Camaleon, as he comes in just two years removed from finishing T3 here in 2020. In fact, of the eight rounds he’s played here since 2019, Hoge has shot 80 or below in seven of them.

The metrics are there this week for Hoge as well, as he comes into the week ranked #3 in the world in SG: Approach, and in the top 20 in both SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Total. If Hoge can get his putter going, expect for him to finish in the mix come Sunday.
