The 150th edition of the Open Championship is now just a few weeks away, as the fourth and final major of the season could end up being the best yet. While the golf world swirls in turmoil following the defection of some of its biggest names to the LIV Golf Series, the majors are the last remaining events where the world’s best come together.

With the on-course action being some of the best we’ve seen in decades as of late, let’s take a closer (and early) look at the 2022 Open Championship and see where the value remains.

Course Preview: Old Course at St. Andrews

Widely considered the oldest golf course in the world, The Old Course at St. Andrews never disappoints, as some incredible Opens have been held here over the years. The definition of a links course, St. Andrews runs along the eastern coast of Scotland, where high winds are almost always a factor.

Coming in at 7,305 yards, the course sits just above the Tour average but is best known for its many hazards. With 112 bunkers in total, St. Andrews also features rolling hills and hollows that have ruined many of the world’s best chances as the weekend continues.

I guess we’ll keep discounting the No. 1 golfer in the world (by a wide margin).

Starting Sunday at the US Open with three straight birdies, Scottie Scheffler got within one stroke of the lead heading into 18 before Fitzpatrick hit the shot of a lifetime to secure the win. Seemingly out of nowhere, Scheffler has had an incredible 2022 season, including his first four PGA Tour wins, all coming within two months and culminating with the 2022 Masters.

Following a less-than-desirable (cut) result at the PGA Championship, Scheffler fired off three straight top 20s, including two top twos over the next three tournaments. Making his Open Championship debut last season at Royal St. Georges’, Scheffler finished T8 and set himself up for what would be a busy (and profitable) next 12 months.

Outside of this year’s PGA Championship, Scheffler has finished T19 or better in every major since the 2020 PGA Championship.

As if his results weren’t enough, Scheffler leaves the US Open top 15 in the world in SG: Total, Approach the Green, and Putting Average. If he can get his short game going early, look for another high result from the world No. 1.
