2022 PGA Championship Bets: To Make or Miss the Cut Odds & Picks

Our second major of the 2022 PGA season is upon us as the 104th PGA Championship will get underway on Thursday. This year, Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is hosting the event for the first time since Tiger Woods won the PGA Championship in 2007.

The PGA Championship is known for the importance of iron play, so we will look at SG Tee to Green and SG Approach the Green to narrow down our bets for this event. Additionally, I looked at recent form and performance in major championships to help dial in the best bets to make.

Below, I walk through my three best bets to make/miss the cut for the 2022 PGA Championship. All plays below are one unit each, or 1% of your betting bankroll.

Cameron Young to Miss the Cut (+150)

I believe we are getting an inflated value on Cameron Young due to two recent top-five finishes. Young finished in second place at the Wells Fargo Championship and in third place at the RBC Heritage.

However, those two competitions were on easier courses with easier competition compared to the PGA Championship. In fact, Young has struggled when the competition has increased not only this season but in his entire career.

This year, Young missed the cut at both the Masters Tournament and THE PLAYERS Championship. Young has missed the cut in all three of his major championship appearances in his career, and this number is too long to pass up on him doing so once again.

Matt Kuchar to Miss the Cut (+140)

Matt Kuchar is another golfer whom I believe we are getting value on to miss the cut due to an inflated recent performance. While Kuchar has four top-20 finishes over his last five tournaments, they are all in fields that are not as difficult as the PGA Championship.

Prior to that stretch, Kuchar missed the cut in three of his four previous tournaments. Kuchar’s strengths and weaknesses will not help him in this tournament as ranks just 107th on TOUR in SG Approach the Green and 69th in SG Tee to Green.

It has been a long time since Kuchar has made any noise in a major championship, and I do not see why this week will be any different. Kuchar has now missed the cut in seven straight major championship appearances.

Tiger Woods to Make the Cut (-115)

This is as square of a play as you can make in the betting world, but I am taking the bait. While the books will probably clean up on this prop this week, these odds are too short for me to pass up.

I expect the Tiger comeback story to continue this week as he should only be healthier since he teed It up at the Masters Tournament in April. While fatigue caught up with Tiger on the weekend, he was strong on both Thursday and Friday as he was just one-over par entering Saturday.

Tiger has made the cut in three of his last four major championship appearances, and this course should especially give him a good chance at doing so once again. As I mentioned in the opener, this is the first time that Southern Hills is hosting the PGA Championship since Tiger won it in 2007.

Best of luck!
