2022 PGA Championship: Head-to-Head Bet Odds & Picks

Our second major of the 2022 PGA season is upon us as the 104th PGA Championship will get underway on Thursday. This year, Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is hosting the event for the first time since Tiger Woods won the PGA Championship in 2007.

The PGA Championship is known for the importance of iron play, so we will look at SG Tee to Green and SG Approach the Green to narrow down our bets for this event. Additionally, I looked at recent form and performance in major championships to help dial in the best bets to make.

Below, I walk through my three best head-to-head bets for the 2022 PGA Championship. All plays below are one unit each, or 1% of your betting bankroll.

Russell Henley Over Adam Scott (-110)

Russell Henley’s metrics suggest a potential breakout in this year’s PGA Championship. Currently, Henley ranks eighth on TOUR in SG Tee to Green and second in SG Approach the Green.

Both of these rankings are far higher than Adam Scott, who ranks 72nd and 56th respectively in those two categories. Russell Henley has been a safe bet this season as he has made the cut in 14 of the 15 tournaments he has played in with five top-20 finishes.

Meanwhile, Scott only has three top-20 finishes on the season and just one of those was over his last five tournaments. In his most recent major appearance, Henley finished in the top-30 at the Masters Tournament, a feat that Scott has not accomplished in any of his last six major championship appearances.

Shane Lowry Over Dustin Johnson (-120)

Shane Lowry has been on fire when playing in major championships, and this one should be no different. Coming off of a third-place finish at the Masters Tournament, Lowry has now finished inside the top-20 in five of his last 11 major championship appearances.

Making the cut in all 11 of those major championships, Lowry has been a very safe bet. Meanwhile, Dustin Johnson’s recent performances have been much more volatile.

While Johnson has three top-20 finishes over his last five major championship appearances, he has missed the cut in the two other tournaments. Ranking just 42nd on TOUR in SG Tee to Green and 43rd in SG Approach the Green, both of which put him lower than Lowry, I think It is more likely to see a sub-average performance from Johnson this time around.

Tony Finau Over Cameron Young (-110)

This play is more of a fade of Cameron Young than It is a backing of Tony Finau. Young has struggled in competitions that have a tougher field and a more difficult course, which are both obviously the case at this week’s PGA Championship.

We have seen this trend play out this year as Young missed the cut at both the Masters Tournament and THE PLAYERS Championship. Young has now missed the cut in all three of his major championship appearances in his career, and I do not see any reason why he would turn that around at Southern Hills.

Meanwhile, Tony Finau should be able to at least make the cut. This season, Finau ranks 26th on TOUR in SG Tee to Green and 32nd in SG Approach the Green.

Best of luck!
