2022 Presidents Cup: Best Bets, Picks & Predictions for Saturday

With the Fortinet Championship in the rearview mirror, we look forward to this week’s Presidents Cup in Charlotte, North Carolina. For those unfamiliar with the Presidents Cup, It is an event held biennially that pins a team of U.S. golfers against a team of International golfers.

This year, Quail Hollow Club is hosting the event. Quail Hollow Club is a par-71, 7,571-yard track that hosts the Wells Fargo Championship annually (except for last year as they were prepping to host this event).

Looking at previous tournaments, the two biggest predictors of success at Quail Hollow Club are SG: Putting and Scrambling, rewarding those who make quick work of the greens. While the format of this tournament changes with each day of the event, Saturday features four foursome matches.

Below, I will walk through my three best bets for Saturday’s third round of the 2022 Presidents Cup. Entering Saturday, the United States are up 8-2 against the Internationals.

Presidents Cup: Best Bets for Saturday’s Matches (2022)

Cameron Young and Collin Morikawa -145 Over Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama

Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama are reuniting once again after the pair was split up for the second round. However, this duo got smoked on Thursday, going six down to Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

Is the Cameron Young and Collin Morikawa worse than Schauffele/Cantlay? Probably, but it is by the smallest of margins.

On TOUR last season, Young finished 68th in SG: Putting and 33rd in Scrambling while Morikawa finished 94th in Scrambling. Morikawa’s putting is a concern, but he is 1-0 thus far in this tournament.

Meanwhile, Scott finished just 133rd in Scrambling and has shot a 70 or higher in each of his last 18 rounds at Quail Hollow. Scott and Matsuyama have both lost in every round they have played in this tournament.

Sungjae Im and Corey Conners +130 Over Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas

I hate betting against Spieth and Thomas becuase of how fun they have been to watch this tournament and quite frankly becuase It feels un-American. However, the value in this matchup has to be with Im and Conners.

Im has been the sharpest golfer on the International side, and is the main reason that he and Munoz halved with Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns. Realizing this, the International squad is giving Im a strong partner (no offense Sebastian Munoz) on Saturday in. aneffort to steal a point back from the Americans.

On TOUR last season, Im finished 37th in SG: Putting and fifth in Scrambling. These metrics have directly translated to a strong performance from him this week.

On the flip side, Spieth and Thomas are obviously excellent golfers but both failed to crack the top-50 in SG: Putting last season. This tournament has truly been a putting contest thus far, which gives an edge to the Im/Conners tandem in this specific matchup.

Tony Finau and Max Homa -180 Over Si Woo Kim and Cameron Davis

It feels good to get back on the American side with our plays, and there is no better guy to back than yesterday’s hero Max Homa. Drilling a walk-off putt on 18 to secure another point for the Americans, the crowd erupted as the players stormed the green to congratulate Homa on the terrific performance.

It is not shocking that Homa played hero in yesterday’s round considering he is one of the hottest golfers on the planet. Entering this week, Homa has made 18 of his last 19 cuts with 10 top-20 finishes and two wins.

Turning into one of the best putters on TOUR, Homa finished last season ranked 20th in SG: Putting and third in Scrambling. Meanwhile, Si Woo Kim finished 177th in SG: Putting while Cameron Davis finished 68th.

Best of luck!
