2022 U.S. Open Bets: To Make or Miss the Cut Odds & Picks

Our third major of the 2022 PGA season is upon us as the U.S. Open will get underway on Thursday. This year, The Country Club at Brookline in Massachusetts is hosting the event for the first time since 1988.

This course is famous for various reasons, whether for being the oldest country club in the United States or the place where amateur Francis Ouimet (you may know him from the movie The Greatest Game Ever Played) won the U.S. Open in 1913. In this year’s version of the U.S. Open, the rough is as thick as it has ever been on tour, which will benefit the younger/stronger players on TOUR.

Additionally, finding greens will be essential to success as they are small, and life will be difficult if you spend the entire round scrambling. That being said, we will look at greens in regulation percentage and birdie percentage from the rough to narrow down our best bets for this tournament.

Below, I walk through my two best bets to make/miss the cut for the 2022 U.S. Open. All plays below are one unit each, or 1% of your betting bankroll.

Keegan Bradley To Miss the Cut (+130)

We are getting great value in this number because Bradley has made the cut in six straight tournaments. However, this course does not set up well for Bradley.

This season, Bradley ranks 89th on TOUR in birdie or better percentage from the rough and 125th in greens in regulation percentage. If Bradley is unable to put himself in good putting positions early on, his score will struggle mightily due to his lack of skill in finding small greens.

Bradley has struggled mightily in making the cut at major championships as his game does not translate at courses of this difficulty. Over his last seven major championship appearances, Bradley has missed the cut in five of them (71%).

Tyrrell Hatton To Miss the Cut (+130)

Another golfer I am fading in this tournament is Tyrrell Hatton. Hatton could struggle mightily at this course due to his difficulties in hitting greens in regulation.

Hatton ranks just 195th on TOUR in greens this season in regulation percentage. With substantially smaller greens than he has been aiming at all year, Hatton could be very dependent on his putter.

While Hatton’s putter has been great this year, that is a lot of potential strokes to make up if he is facing par on every first putt. Add to the fact that Hatton has missed the cut in four of his last seven major championships (57%); this is a good number to take a shot on.

Best of luck!
