2022 World Cup Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (12/9)

With only two games today, after the first day in a few weeks without any soccer, we have some great teams squaring off for a chance to play in the semifinals early next week. Most people weren’t expecting much from these teams besides the tournament favorites in Brazil. Let’s dive into these and see who will move one step closer to glory!

Croatia vs. Brazil (Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan; 6 p.m.)

The Croatians are not going to be an easy out for the Brazilians. They trailed the Japanese 1-0 at the half, but their confidence never wavered, as Ivan Perisic tied the game in the 55th minute. From there, the match made it all the way to a shootout, and their keeper Dominik Livakovic absolutely shut the door on the match, saving three of four strikes from the dot to secure a spot in this quarterfinal match! The Brazilians decided their match within the first 36 minutes against the South Korean squad. They scored four goals in this time and took that lead into the half, and ended up winning 4-1. This was an extremely impressive display, and it was even more impressive that they had four different goal scorers in this match.

I think Brazil advances, and while -278 is expensive for a quarterfinal, the Brazilians have been that good. If you don’t feel like paying this price, there is fantastic value in a Richarlison Goal at +150. Richarlison has had an amazing tournament, having scored a goal in every single match that Brazil has played. I think there is great value in backing him to do it once again here to propel the Brazilians into the Semis!

Netherlands vs. Argentina (Lusail Iconic Stadium, Lusail; 10 p.m.)

The Dutch played a good match against a United States team that had been stout defensively and put up three goals on the heels of a stellar performance from Denzel Dumfries. He assisted the first two goals and scored just five minutes after the United States did to put the match away essentially.

Argentina had a similar clinical performance in their match against Australia. Lionel Messi netted the first goal in the 35th minute, and the Argentines never looked back! The last two times these nations squared off, the matches resulted in scoreless draws. I think both teams are skilled enough to keep the other one off the board, but I think the result will be different this time.

I lean draw in the first 90′, but then I am on Netherlands to Advance +130. I think they are still the most underrated team in the tournament, and the confidence that they are playing with will allow them to outclass Argentina, who is no slouch in their own right. Look for a 1-1 score going into the 75th minute, and from there, I think that the Dutch will make big plays and either win it late or in extra time.
