2023 Charles Schwab Challenge: Sleeper Picks & Predictions

With the 2023 PGA Championship in the rear-view mirror, we now look forward to this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas. Colonial Country Club will host this event, which it has done annually since 1946.

Colonial is a par-70, 7,209-yard track that rewards strong iron players while also boasting bentgrass greens. Looking at the top of previous leaderboards, the two key predictors of success at this course are SG: Tee to Green and SG: Approach the Green.

Below, I will give out my two best longshot bets to win the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge.

2023 Charles Schwab Challenge: Best Longshot Bets

These plays are 0.2u and 0.1u, or 0.2% and 0.1% of your betting bankroll.

Brendon Todd (+7000): 0.2u

The first golfer we are targeting this week is Brendon Todd, who currently sits at 70/1 via DraftKings Sportsbook. Despite coming off a missed cut at Oak Hill, there is still plenty of reason to believe in Todd’s game this week.

Prior to the PGA Championship, he had made six straight cuts, including his T8 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship. Currently ranked 49th in the FedEx Cup Standings, Todd’s season has been elevated by his above-average iron play.

On TOUR this year, he ranks in the Top 85 in both SG: Tee to Green and SG: Approach the Green. Additionally, Todd has seen some success on bentgrass greens this season, finishing T28 at the Shriners Children’s Open and T7 at THE CJ CUP in South Carolina.

At those two events, he finished 13th and 27th respectively among the field in SG: Putting. Therefore, it is not surprising that Todd routinely finds success at Colonial, a course where he has finished inside the Top 8 in each of the past two seasons.

Emiliano Grillo (+8000): 0.1u

Another golfer to target this week is Emiliano Grillo, who currently sits at 80/1 via DraftKings. Like Todd, Grillo is coming off a missed cut at the PGA Championship, although that is an entirely different beast than this week’s tournament in Fort Worth.

Prior to his missed cut at Oak Hill, he made five straight cuts, including his T7 finish at the RBC Heritage and T5 finish at the Mexico Open at Vidanta. Currently ranked 57th in the FedEx Cup Standings, Grillo’s irons have carried his game all year.

On TOUR this season, he ranks in the Top 60 in both SG: Tee to Green and SG: Approach the Green. Additionally, Grillo has fared well on bentgrass greens this year, finishing fourth at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP while making the cut at both the Shriners Children’s Open and THE CJ CUP in South Carolina.

Colonial is a track that Grillo has played well at, making six of seven cuts while boasting two Top 8 finishes.

Best of luck!
