2023 LIV Golf Orlando: Best Bets, Picks & Predictions

It is time for the third LIV Golf Tour tournament of the season! It will take place at Orange County National in Orlando, with LIV Golf Orlando making its debut.

Because it will take place exactly one week before The 2023 Masters, many people will be paying close attention because it is undoubtedly the one that has the greatest degree of suspense thus far, potentially of any LIV event to date.

Can expected contenders like Cameron Smith and Dustin Johnson recover their form in time for The Masters? Will any of the 18 LIV Golfers who will be competing in the tournament next week have an effect on the final leaderboard?

The finest players in the world are looking to improve their confidence and form in the weeks leading up to the most important competition of the year as we take a closer look at LIV Orlando.

It comes as no surprise that Dustin Johnson, the 2020 Masters champion, and Cameron Smith are this week’s favorites at +1000 and +1200, respectively.  Although neither has been particularly remarkable through the first two tournaments, their potential is evident, and it won’t be long before these LIV Golf headliners return to the mix.

Joaquin Niemann, who placed 37th in Arizona in a previous outing, is the best of the rest with a number of +1200. In the meantime, Mito Pereira, who placed sixth in Tucson, is moving up the leaderboard and is currently tied with Taylor Gooch at +1400, both slightly ahead of seasoned competitor Paul Casey at +1600.

Course Preview: Orange County National

The curved fairways and larger-than-average greens on Crooked Cat’s course, which has elevation fluctuations throughout, contribute to the feeling of a links course. While Orlando’s weather may not be as typical as what you may see at an Open Championship, the same level of ingenuity may be required with approach shots, particularly around the greens.

For most golfers in Orlando this week, the Champions Bermuda greens will be a familiar putting surface, and those who have historically performed well on that kind of surface on the PGA Tour may do well here again. Before hosting PGA Tour Q School in 2007, this course was most recently used on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020.

Outright Betting Pick: Charles Howell III (+1800

At 43 years old, Charles Howell III only has so much even remotely high-level golf in him, hence why he likely went to LIV in the first place. Even still, Howell III is an Augusta native, and a high finish here might get the committee’s attention for a last-minute invite next week. Already winning a LIV event this year at Mayakoba, it doesn’t hurt he’s playing some great golf.
