2023 Masters Picks & Predictions

Players will begin the practice rounds for the 2023 Masters on April 3rd, as Masters Week is already all but here.  Since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002, Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win and become the first person to win consecutive Masters tournaments.  The second favorite, barely ahead of Jon Rahm and slightly behind Scheffler, is Rory McIlroy is slotted to bring home his career Grand Slam.

Last year, there were many LIV Golf rumors circulating around the Augusta trees, but the breakaway circuit had not yet held its inaugural competition. The LIV Golfers and PGA Tour golfers will now tee off at Augusta for the first time following the significant breakup, as The Masters Tournament is managed by Augusta National, which has its own admission standards.

As it did not alter that standard for this year, 18 LIV golfers, including six previous Masters champions, were invited to Augusta and are anticipated to compete. The highest LIV-defect odds are held by Cameron Smith, who switched from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf after winning the British Open at St. Andrews last year. At Augusta National, he has had one of the most spectacular recent runs of performance without a victory. In four of the previous five years, he finished in the top 10 at Augusta, including a finish for T3 last year and T2 in 2020.

The three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson is also anticipated to play after missing last year’s event because to the aftermath from his remarks regarding Saudi Arabia and LIV Golf.

With no shortage of storylines, let’s take a closer look at how things might play out at Augusta.

Outright Betting Pick: Tony Finau (+2200

Given how Rahm, McIlroy, and Scheffler have dominated the PGA Tour over the past six months, Finau currently flying under the radar here despite being a top-five golfer in the world as far as I’m concerned.  Since winning the Houston Open in November, he has amassed a string of top-25 finishes, demonstrating his strong form each and every week he suits up.

Despite the fact that he hasn’t competed at Augusta National since 2019, the driver will always offer him a fantastic opportunity to win here, and if his putter is going, he has a real chance. Ggiven that the most recent winners (Hideki Matsuyama and Scheffler) also struggled at Augusta National before donning their green jackets, I’m less concerned about recent history and love the value Big Tone currently presents.
