2023 Monaco Grand Prix: Formula 1 Odds, Picks & Predictions
There’s nothing quite like Monaco!
Sat on the north coast of the beautiful, blue Mediterranean Sea, the stunning sovereign nation sits between the French Alps and Northern Italy. Each year, the “playground for the rich and famous” hosts one of the most prestigious events in the world of auto racing.
It’s been depicted in Disney’s “Cars 2,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 2” and - most recently - Netflix’s “Murder Mystery” starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. This is Formula 1’s Monaco Grand Prix.
If you’re looking for a bit of an early-morning sweat as you fight off the Sunday scaries this Memorial Day Weekend, you’re in the right place. Here are my best bets for the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix.
2023 Monaco Grand Prix: Formula 1 Odds, Picks & Predictions
All bet recommendations are for 1u.
Outright: Max Verstappen (+120 via Caesars Sportsbook)
Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen picked right up where they left off here in 2023. After a 2022 season where Verstappen compiled 15 wins in 22 appearances, he already has three wins in five races. The only races he didn’t win? He came in second to Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Pérez (Saudi Arabian GP and Azerbaijan GP).
At Monaco specifically, Verstappen has led for 260 kilometers and scored 64 points (both third-most among active drivers). He took home the trophy as recently as 2021 and finished third last season. He also holds the all-time lap record, set in 2018.
Defending champion Pérez will be a trendy play this week. However, he finished over five seconds back of Verstappen in Miami on May 7 and has been a touch less consistent, finishing off the podium in the Australian GP earlier this season. Getting Verstappen at plus-money outright is still a value as he continues on a historical heater.
Fastest Qualifier: Charles Leclerc (+200 via Barstool Sportsbook)
If there is one place to bet against Verstappen this weekend, it’s in the qualifying market. Verstappen has never won the pole at Monaco. He qualified fourth last season and has secured two of five poles this year.
The only non-Red Bull Racing car to win a pole this season is Charles Leclerc. Leclerc also happens to have swept the pole the past two Monaco races and sits tied with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso for the most Monaco poles amongst active drivers. Look for Leclerc to repeat once more come qualifying.
Both Team Drivers To Score: Aston Martin (-175 via Caesars Sportsbook)
Winning this wager requires both Aston Martin drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll to finish in the top 1o. This bet has cashed three of five races this year. Alonso has finished in the top four in every race, while Stroll has placed in three races.
A two-time winner of Monaco, Alonso enters with the fourth-best odds to win the race. Stroll, on the other hand, is the driver with some risk involved. Stroll finished 14th here last season but was eighth in 2021. What gives me hope in Stroll is that he sits eighth in the F1 standings. This is despite having a critical problem with his car, forcing him to exit the Saudia Arabian GP after just 18 laps. Without that engineering blemish, Stroll has been one of the most consistent drivers on the circuit this season. I’m betting that’ll continue Sunday.
