Today’s 2023 NBA Summer League Best Bets
Here are our top picks for today’s 2023 NBA Summer League action.
Grizzlies vs. Cavaliers
The Memphis Grizzlies continued their winning ways against the Bulls on Saturday. When their actual starters play, the Grizzlies are 3-0 behind David Roddy, Jake LaRavia, and Kenny Lofton Jr.Meanwhile, the Cavaliers earned a massive victory over the Raptors yesterday. They're now 2-0 in the Summer League and played tremendous defense in the win. The offense is loaded with talent. Sharife Cooper, Isaiah Mobley, and Sam Merrill have played very well. Meanwhile, the bench also produced in the latter portion of that second game. I don't think either offense will be stopped. Grab the Over.
Pick: Over 182.5 (-110)
Suns vs. Heat
Phoenix lost to the Bucks in their first game of the Summer League. Toumani Camara added 20 points, and Jordan Goodwin scored 12 points. But the bench didn't get much playing time and didn't produce much, either. That's not good for the depth of this Suns team. They'll take on a Miami Heat team that has already played multiple games together. The Heat won their last game against the Celtics, 99-88, behind Orlando Robinson's 36 points. Nikola Jovic has also contributed at a high level for the Heat. However, Miami doesn't have much depth either. It's starting lineup against starting lineup, and Miami's starting five is way better. Back the Heat.
Pick: Heat -3 (-110)
76ers vs. Mavericks
Philadelphia added 110 points in their first Summer League game. The 76ers have incredible depth offensively. Everyone in the starting five added at least 13 points and played at least 21 minutes. Jaden Springer proved he's still got it with 23 points. Javonte Smart also added 17. The 76ers played four guards and a forward, which helped stretch the floor and shoot at a high level. Meanwhile, the Mavericks only added 80 points in their most recent game against the Thunder. Dallas doesn't have a lot of scoring but also played a lot of their bench for more than half of the game. Dereck Lively II and Olivier Maxence-Prosper aren't going to be high-level offensive players in the league. Jaden Hardy is the only guy that the Mavericks can rely on. I'll back the 76ers to escape with this one.
Pick: 76ers +2.5 (-110)
Pacers vs. Magic
The Pacers have a very intriguing roster for the Summer League. Indiana's got Jarace Walker, Isaiah Jackson, Benedict Mathurin, Ben Sheppard, and Andrew Nembhard starting. That's probably one of the best starting fives out there. They already earned a win over Washington. They'll take on a Magic team that only scored 78 points in their first Summer League game against the Pistons. The Magic have had a tough draw early, but Jett Howard, one of their early picks, really struggled from the field. Orlando's Anthony Black was a bright spot, but I'm not ready to trust this team yet. Give me the Pacers.
Pick: Pacers -3.5 (-110)
Timberwolves vs. Jazz
Minnesota's team might score a lot of points in the Summer League. To begin their journey, they scored 102 points in a beatdown against the Pelicans. Brandon Williams added 24 points in 29 minutes. He scored double-figures along with three other starters, including Wendell MOore Jr., Josh Minott, and Leonard Miller. There is a ton of offensive talent on this roster. But the Jazz also have a lot of offensive talent. Ochai Agbaji, who had big games in the NBA last year, is playing in the Summer League again this year. He scored 21 against the Clippers, and Keyonte George added 33 points with ten assists. I'm impressed with both offenses. Give me the Over in this game.
Pick: Over 187.5 (-110)
Kings vs. Clippers
The Kings seriously have a great starting five, even without Keegan Murray. Murray won't be playing in Las Vegas for the Kings. But Jordan Ford, Kessler Edwards, Keon Ellis, and Neemias Queta are all still on the squad. They will carry the Kings because the bench is pretty weak. On the other hand, the Clippers couldn't get stops on the defensive end in their game against the Jazz. But they've probably got a rotation of seven players that can score at will. Jason Preston had 15 points and ten assists, while Moussa Diabte added 11 points and 12 rebounds. And Xavier Moon scored 26 points while going 6-for-8 from downtown. I'll back the Clippers. They're a balanced and sharp team and should get better defense out of this team moving forward.
Pick: Clippers ML (-110)
