2023 NFL Preseason Odds & Picks: Sunday

Here are our top picks and predictions for Sunday’s NFL preseason action.

Chiefs vs. Saints

It doesn’t come with the same fanfare that Thursday night, Week 1, at Arrowhead, will bring, but the Chiefs will return to the field for the first time since winning Super Bowl LVII. They travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints. If last year is any indication of what we’ll see, you can expect the starters play no more than one series. The Saints aren’t likely to play their starters much more, but with a new face in Derek Carr under center, it wouldn’t shock me to see additional reps. This could make all the difference in a game that looks low-scoring. New Orleans boasted a top-ten defense last year, and HC Dennis Allen is a defensive specialist that knows this team’s identity is on that side of the ball. They have depth, especially in the secondary, and it could spell a long day for the Chiefs’ offense. This is a clear under play to wrap up Preseason Week 1.

Pick: Under 37.5 (-110)

49ers vs. Raiders

Kyle Shanahan has stated that Brock Purdy will not play in the preseason opener as he returns from an elbow injury he suffered in the NFC Championship. The backup job in San Francisco will be the focus as this might be the last chance for SF first-round pick Trey Lance to prove himself, but another former first-rounder Sam Darnold is there to compete as well. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels has not indicated if his starters will play. It would be interesting to see Jimmy Garoppolo go against his old team, but it is unlikely, so look for veteran Brian Hoyer and rookie Aidan O'Connell. Also, there is no Josh Jacobs after he left camp over contract disputes, so the running back battle will be interesting to see. The quarterback depth chart is important for both teams, so I wouldn't be surprised if that opens up the playbook and let it fly. My best bet is to take over.

Pick: Over 36 (-110)
