2023 Valspar Championship: Best Longshot Picks & Predictions

With the 2023 THE PLAYERS Championship in the rearview mirror, we now look forward to this week’s Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida. The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort will host this tournament once again, which it has done annually since its inception.

Copperhead is a par-71, 7,340-yard track designed by Larry Packard that rewards accurate ball strikers who can get off the greens quickly. Looking at the top of previous leaderboards, the two metrics that predict the most success at this event include SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Putting.

Below, I will give out my two best longshot bets to win the 2023 Valspar Championship.

2023 Valspar Championship: Best Longshot Bets

These plays are 0.25u and 0.1u, or 0.25% and 0.1% of your betting bankroll.

Eric Cole (+11500 via BetMGM): 0.25u

The first golfer we are targeting this week is Eric Cole, who currently sits at 115/1 at BetMGM. Entering this week in tremendous form, Cole has made eight of his last 10 cuts and currently sits in 37th place in the FedEx Cup Standings.

Of those eight made-cuts, he boasts four top-30 finishes, including his T15 finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and his runner-up finish at The Honda Classic. The main reason for this recent success is Cole’s tremendous putting.

On TOUR this season, he ranks 22nd in SG: Putting, which should keep him in contention once again this week. Cole’s odds are so long because he has never played at Copperhead before, but given his red-hot putter and recent form, it is worth taking a shot on him at the large price of 115/1.

Ben Taylor (+15000 via BetMGM): 0.1u

Another golfer to target this week is Ben Taylor, who sits at the whopping price of 150/1 at BetMGM. Currently in 33rd place in the FedEx Cup standings, it has been a strong start to the season for the Englishman, who is establishing himself as one of the most consistent putters on TOUR.

This season, he ranks sixth in SG: Putting. However, the rest of his game has also been sharp, particularly his irons, as Taylor ranks 68th on TOUR this season in SG: Tee-to-Green.

Like Cole, Taylor has put together an incredible start to his season. Due to the strength of his all-around game, Taylor has made 10 of 14 cuts and has finished inside the top-25 in half of those made cuts.

Not only is he posting good results, but Taylor continues to flirt with winning as he possesses three top-five finishes this season, including his third-place finish at the Cadence Bank Houston Open, T4 finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii, and T5 finish at The Honda Classic. Taylor continues to knock on the door, and at 150/1, it is worth taking a flyer on him to finally bust through.
