2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship Golf Odds & Picks: Head-to-Head Matchups
The top 70 golfers in the FedExCup rankings are preparing to tee off from TPC Southwind for the first of three playoff events on Thursday morning. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, only the top 50 golfers who finish 50th or better in the FedExCup rankings by the end of this cut-free playoff event will qualify for the BMW Championship event at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado.
TPC Southwind demands precision with every club, featuring Zoysiagrass fairways and Bermudagrass, which can be found in the rough and on the putting surfaces. The Stimpmeter measures up to 12.5 feet for putting velocity and with greens running under 4,400 feet on average surface area, approach shots and tee shots are imperative to succeed at this par 70 course.
In this article, we’re going to be targeting the Groups betting market on FanDuel Sportsbook. Each group consists of five golfers that hold plus odds to win their assigned group with the lowest score by the end of Round 4. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more free bets and weekly analysis.

Group B
Group B features Patrick Cantlay and Hideki Matsuyama as co-favorites at +280 odds, followed by Tommy Fleetwood (+300), Viktor Hovland (+400), and Tom Kim (+450). Oddsmakers have priced this group well, however, I believe Matsuyama winds up outplaying Cantlay to finish with the lowest scorecard in this five-man group.
Matsuyama ranks fourth in total strokes gained in the field at TPC Southwind this week. The Japanese native is gaining 1.93 strokes tee-to-green, which is also fourth-best in the field, while sitting first for SG: around the green. He’s an incredible scrambler but plays very well with all of his clubs. Matsuyama logged a T16 finish at 9-under-par at this event in 2023 and I like his current form, winning bronze during the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Let’s stake a unit to cash this +280 head-to-head matchup ticket under the Groups betting market at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Pick: Hideki Matsuyama (+280)
Group F
Next up, we’re heading to the final group, Group F, to bet on Davis Thompson as the favorite at +280 odds. The rising star recorded a course record en route to his dominant win at the John Deere Classic a month ago and also recorded a T12 finish at the Wyndham Championship.
Thompson is another great scrambler who doesn’t have a lot of weaknesses to spot at the moment. He’s inside the top-25 for total strokes gained and is in the green for every strokes gained metric, although off-the-tee and approach can sometimes be inconsistent for the 25-year-old Georgia native.
Thompson is the favorite over Brian Harman (+300), Jason Day (+330), Max Homa (+360), and Byeong Hun An (+400) at TPC Southwind this week, so we’re riding with the chalk here and backing him to stay hot during his debut in the FedExCup playoffs.
Pick: Davis Thompson (+280)
