2024 Olympics Golf Longshot Odds, Picks, & Predictions

The 2024 Olympics are underway, which means we get to watch 60 of the best golfers in the world compete in a 72-hole, traditional stroke-play format at Le Golf National this week. The Albatros course will be the site where men’s golf tees off on Thursday morning. It’s a par 71 that is a relatively short length at 7,174 yards, demanding precision to avoid thick rough, and water hazards.

Ryegrass-fescue fairways and large greens set to run fast are the main components for golfers to tackle this week. Undulating fairways and field fescue will further challenge Olympic golfers from 32 different countries, as water hazards become a mainstay on the final four holes of this scenic, yet difficult course. Expect the potential for a winning scorecard to be in the single digits once Sunday afternoon concludes. Tiebreakers for first, second, and third-place finishes will each be handled in a sudden-death death playoff format if necessary.

I’ve found a few golfers to bet with longshot odds in the outright winner betting market as we quickly approach Round 1 on Thursday, with opening tee times as early as 3 a.m. ET. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more free bets and weekly analysis.

2024 Olympics: Best Longshot Bets

These plays are .25u and .10 u, or 0.25% and 0.10% of your betting bankroll. Odds used exclusively from FanDuel Sportsbook.

Thomas Detry (+7000)

Thomas Detry is one of the more experienced golfers at the Albatros course in this week’s field. Representing Belgium, Detry has recorded four top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour this season, while relying on his putter to flood his scorecard with birdies, ranked eighth in SG: putting in 2024.

Off-the-tee, Detry is solid, but his irons have been lackluster, which is why we’re getting a big price on the Belgian at 70-1 in the outright winner market. He’s never won on the PGA Tour, but that shouldn’t stop us from betting Detry at Albatros this week. A 0.25 unit bet returns roughly 17 units of profit, so let’s play a bit of a contrarian role and bank on Detry’s putting skillset to a huge win.

Matthieu Pavon (+9000)

Matthieu Pavon is set to compete in his native country and recorded his only career won on the PGA Tour earlier this season at the Farmers Insurance Open. Pavon has a win on the international circuit in 2023 and has two more top-five finishes in 2024.

Ranked 38th SG: approach and 58th SG: putting, the Frenchman’s blend of accuracy with his irons and finishing ability on the greens is a potent combination to possess at a course like Albatros. 90-1 is a fantastic price that we simply cannot ignore. A 0.10 unit wager yields nine units of profit, so let’s sprinkle accordingly.

Nicolai Højgaard (+10000)

Representing Denmark, Nicolai Højgaard’s approach game fits well with the rigors of Albatros. Putting and scrambling have been an issue on the PGA Tour for Højgaard in 2024 but he’s also 53rd in hole proximity, 30th with approach shots over 200 yards out, and plays well on difficult par 3 holes.

100-1 is a reasonable price to back Højgaard, since we haven’t seen him piece it all together yet this season. Perhaps a change of venue and the Olympic atmosphere will spark Højgaard to go on a run, just like we watched him record a runner-up finish at the Farmers Insurance Open that Pavon won back in January. Another 0.10 unit wager is enough to reap 10 units of profit, so let’s invest in Denmark’s top ball-striker to return to form this week.
