USA (+100) vs. Germany (+310), DRAW (+235) | O/U 2.5 (+110/-135)
A Group B rematch opens up the semi-finals on Tuesday as the United States of America takes on Germany. The Stars and Stripes cruised past the European nation in the group round, beating them 4-1. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET from Groupama Stadium in Lyon, France.
It is pure domination when the United States takes the pitch against Germany in women's soccer. The group stage win moved the USA to 24-7-5 against the DFB Women, which includes going 5-0-1 against them in the Olympics and World Cup. I expect things to tighten up since this is an elimination game, so maybe we won't get another 4-1 rout, but I do think the United States has the edge here. I'll ride with them on the Moneyline at +100.
The United States has been firing on all cylinders, racking up 10 goals this tournament, while only conceding two. Meanwhile, Germany has been hit-or-miss offensively. They beat Australia 3-0 and Zambia 4-1, but lost 4-1 to the U.S., while barely edging out Canada 0-0 (4-2 PK). The Germans only landed one shot on goal against Canada in their quarter-final match. Canada and Team USA are in a different echelon than Australia and Zambia, so I think Germany's offense will take a step back here. I like the United States to take care of business in the first 90 minutes.
Bet: USA Moneyline (+100)
Brazil (+550) vs. Spain (-170), DRAW (+285) | O/U 2.5 (+100/-130)
The action continues with another group rematch, this time pitting Brazil against Spain. La Roja beat the South American country 2-0 in their group-stage finale, which solidified a perfect 3-0-0 record in Group C. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET from Orange Vélodrome in Marseille, France.
I have a general betting philosophy to lean toward the under in high-stakes games. We don't say, "defense wins championships" for nothing. Typically the defenses show up when the most is at stake. I don't see why that wouldn't be the case here. I'm playing the under on 2.5 goals for this semi-final clash.
For starters, we already have a head-to-head meeting between these two teams, which finished under 2.5 goals with a 2-0 final score. Brazil's defense has been solid this tournament, allowing only four total goals in their four matches. Meanwhile, their offense is lagging considering they've only netted three goals. As for Spain, they've conceded just three goals this tournament. These are two top-10 FIFA teams, so I expect the defenses to be sharp as the squads attempt to punch their ticket to the gold medal game.
Bet: Under 2.5 Goals (-130)
