2024 The Basketball Tournament (TBT) Picks: Tuesday (7/23)

The Basketball Tournament is back for the 2024 season! While the NBA Summer League is over, there is plenty of summer basketball yet to be played. The Big3 rolls on, and now fans get to enjoy TBT, The Basketball Tournament. Games will be featured on ESPN throughout the tournament, and we’ll have you covered with picks and predictions for each and every matchup. TBT believes “high stakes competition is the most powerful force in sports.” They’ll offer an open tournament and games of consequence daily which should result in some electrifying competition. Let’s take a look at our top picks for today’s TBT action.

Today’s 2024 The Basketball Tournament (TBT) Picks

Here are our top picks for today’s 2024 TBT action.

Assembly Ball vs. Eberlein Drive

After a tremendous defensive performance, Indiana's Assembly Ball knocked off Men of Mackey, 68-55. They held Purdue's alumni team to just 30.1% from the field and 25.7% from downtown to move on into the third round. On the other hand, four of the five starters on Assembly Ball finished in double-figures, and Julian Gamble added 11 points with 11 rebounds. They'll take on Eberlein Drive, who had no trouble scoring against All Good Dawgs last game. Eberlein Drive finished with 88 points in an 88-73 victory. Anthony Clemmons scored 20 points, and Archie Goodwin added 18. The team added 50% from the field and 50% from downtown in that game. But it's super unlikely that they will do that against Assembly Ball. I'll back the Indiana alum at -2.5.

Pick: Assembly Ball -2.5 (-110)

Red Rose Thunder vs. Takeover BC

Red Rose Thunder was viewed as a team that could go under the radar and make some noise in its first year in TBT. But after beating their first-round opponent by 30 and your second by 22, they are no longer under the radar. They'll need another night like they had in round 1 when they shot 55% from the field to beat Takeover BC, a team stacked with shooters. AJ English was only 2-4 from three-point range this time (8-14 in round 1) but still scored 21 points. Desi Washington was 5-7 from three-point range and scored 27. If both guys can heat up from behind the arc, Red Rose Thunder will be in trouble. RRT has a solid squad, but they do not have enough offense (or defense) to keep up with Takeover BC.

Pick: Takeover BC ML (+110)

Herd That vs. La Familia

Herd That picked up a 63-59 win over War Eagle, the Auburn alumni team, as the Marshall men eased its way into the quarterfinals. Herd managed to shoot just 37.3% (22-of-59) from the field, but eight of those successful makes were from downtown, including three from Jon Elmore, and another three from Tyrus McGee. Jacorey Williams was high man with 13 points, while also snagging eight boards. Meanwhile, La Familia has had no trouble with 305 Ballers or The Nawf, winning its two games so far by an average of 21.5 points per game. Eric Bledsoe, Andrew Harrison and Willie Cauley-Stein lead the way for the former Wildcats. Kerem Kanter blew up last time out, going for 26 points on an efficient 10-of-12 from the field, while grabbing nine boards. We’ve seen plenty of ones go down already, and La Familia should be able to get the job done by at least two buckets fro the cover.

Pick: La Familia -3.5 (-110)

Forever Coogs vs. Team Challenge ALS

Foreve Coogs are in their first TBT but you wouldn’t know it based on their play during this tournament. They’ve won both of their games by dominating the glass and limiting turnovers. Their matchup with Team Challenge ALS will be another tough test. Most fans will recognize former NBA veteran Darren Collison, who is averaging nearly 15/5/5 in the first two games. However it’s Luis Rodriguez who has led the team in scoring so far while shooting well from all over the floor. Although they’ve been efficient offensively, they struggled on the glass against a bigger Bleed Green team and could find themselves having similar problems against Forever Coogs. Collison and Team Challenge ALS will like to slow this pace down as they’ve done often in this tournament and Forever Coogs will be happy to oblige. Look for the Coogs to clean up misses on offense and propel themselves to a low scoring victory on Tuesday.

Pick: Forever Coogs ML (+130) | Total u140.5 (-115)
