2024 Tour Championship Odds & Picks: Tony Finau

The PGA Tour season comes to an end this week with the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

It's the final event of the three-event FedEx Cup Playoffs. At stake: the honor of being the FedEx Cup champion and a whole lot of money. The winner of the Tour Championship receives $25 million and a five-year PGA Tour exemption. Second place is worth $12.5 million. Every player in the 30-man field will earn at least $550,000.

The Tour Championship uses a unique "starting strokes" system that rewards players based on the number of FedEx Cup points accumulated so far this season. FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler will start at -10. No. 2 player Xander Schauffele starts at -8, No. 3 Hideki Matsuyama starts at -7, No. 4 Keegan Bradley starts at -6, and No. 5 Ludvig Aberg starts at -5. The rest of the field is sorted into groups of five, with groups starting at -4, -3, -2, -1 and even par. Bear in mind that betting odds for the Tour Championship take the starting strokes system into account.

Let's take a closer look at our top 2024 Tour Championship odds and picks for Tony Finau.

Tony Finau Tour Championship Course History

Tony Finau has become a regular at East Lake. This will be the Utah native’s eighth straight appearance in the Tour Championship. While he’s also been a staple in the top 10 on Sunday afternoon, 2023 was his worst finish: a T20 performance. A final-round 64 in 2022 shows that Finau is comfortable enough here to contend. The question is, can he put four solid rounds together to get himself in contention on the back nine Sunday?

Tony Finau Recent Form

The only thing keeping the 34-year-old Finau from a streak of nine straight top-20 finishes is a missed cut at the Open Championship. On the other hand, Finau was never truly in contention on Sunday in any of those starts unless you count what ended up being a two-horse race at the U.S. Open between Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy. Finau was the best in the field in strokes gained: around the green last week and third best in strokes gained: off the tee. The big question is putting. Finau was 47th out of 48 in the field last week on the greens.

Tony Finau 2024 Tour Championship Betting Outlook

Finau is the poor man’s Scottie Scheffler. Maybe a change in putter could change Finau’s fortunes and put some extra change in his pocket. I won’t be taking any change out of mine and backing Finau this week until he can prove he’s at least an average putter. Fade Finau this week.
