2024 Tour Championship: PGA Best Weekend Picks
We’re down to the final two rounds at the 2024 Tour Championship to determine the FedExCup champion. With bragging rights, a five-year PGA Tour exemption, and a $25 million payout at stake, expect a highly entertaining finish as the top 30 golfers who qualified will make a charge this weekend to attempt catching Scottie Scheffler atop the leaderboard.
I’ve got two golfers who deserve to be bet in the outright winner market in this article, each with lucrative plus odds value and a realistic chance of running the table. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more free bets and weekly analysis.
2024 Tour Championship Best Weekend Picks
These plays are 1 unit, 0.50 unit, and 0.25 unit plays. Or one percent, half a percent, and a quarter percent of your betting bankroll. Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.
Xander Schauffele (+550)
Xander Schauffele has historically played exceptional at East Lake. In Round 1, he was likely adjusting to the restorative efforts that took place, winding up 1-under-par. In Round 2, however, Schauffele carded seven birdies and played a bogey-free round, finishing in solo third-place on the leaderboard and five strokes behind Scheffler.
He’s fifth SG: around the green and seventh SG: putting in the field this week, so if Schauffele can find more fairways, which has been an issue, he’ll give himself a great opportunity to catch Scheffler and contend for the outright win on Sunday afternoon. We’ve seen Schauffele do this during his major wins in 2024, so at +550 odds, let’s stake a full unit to get 5.5 units of profit in return.
Collin Morikawa (+700)
Someone was inevitably going to make a run at this event and it turns out, at least during the first two rounds, to be Collin Morikawa. He’s had a lot of opportunities to contend for an outright win in 2024 but it never happened. It’d be an incredible way to finish the season with his first FedExCup title, especially overcoming the starting strokes format that gave Scheffler a large cushion on Thursday.
Morikawa has been a birdie machine and it’s because he’s finding fairways and greens in regulation with ease. He ranks second SG: off-the-tee, third SG: around the green, and third SG: putting, while possessing the most accurate driver in the field. Morikawa’s putter is typically his weakness, but on the restored Bermudagrass greens, he’s been dialed in, ranking first in putts per GIR and eighth in total feet of putts made.
A half unit stake returns 3.5 units of profit on Morikawa to record an outright win at East Lake, so let’s ride.
