2024 U.S. Open Odds & Picks: Head-to-Head Matchups (Round 4)
Pinehurst No. 2 has been a gauntlet, challenging every golfer in the field this week. Bryson DeChambeau has had the most success through three rounds played, going 3-under-par on Thursday and Saturday to separate himself from the rest of the field by three strokes.
Matthieu Pavon, Rory McIlroy, and Patrick Cantlay are at his heels at 4-under-par, while Ludvig Åberg and Tony Finau both finished over par in Round 3, sliding down to T5 and T7 on the leaderboard. At this point, players should know what to expect at Pinehurst, as we’ve seen countless approach shots and even putts slide off of the contoured turtleback greens. That doesn’t make it much easier but with the final round set to get underway, players in contention will have their foot on the gas to try and win the 2024 U.S. Open trophy.

David Puig vs. Thomas Detry 2-Ball Matchup
David Puig, a 22-year-old newcomer at LIV, will compete against Thomas Detry in a 2-ball matchup on Sunday. Puig started off 6-over-par in Round 1, but on Saturday, it was Detry’s turn to go 6-over-par, while the young Spaniard wound up going 1-under-par.
Puig has gone 1-under-par or better in Round 2 and Round 3, while Detry’s 4-under-par start during the first two rounds was nowhere to be found on Saturday. Oddsmakers are still valuing Detry as the favorite in this 2-ball matchup for Round 4, however, Puig is fifth in putting, T28 for greens in regulation, and has only one less birdie made than Detry.
At plus odds, we’re going to back Puig, who is rounding into form and has momentum after Round 2 and Round 3. Detry’s impressive start came to a halting screech in Round 3, so we’re staking a unit on the underdog, Puig, to beat Detry in this 2-ball matchup in Round 4.
Pick: David Puig (+105)
Ludvig Åberg vs. Hideki Matsuyama 2-Ball Matchup
Ludvig Åberg will face Hideki Matsuyama in the final pairing on Sunday. Åberg was the solo leader heading into Round 3 but he wound up going 3-over-par on Saturday, recording three bogeys and a double-bogey, while finishing with three birdies.
Matsuyama has scored lower than Åberg in Round 2 and Round 3, despite the Swede ranking T2 for fairways hit, first for greens in regulation, and 11th in total putting, compared to 35th for Matsuyama. This 2-ball matchup is close to a pick’em, with Åberg holding a slight edge at -120 odds.
Let’s back Åberg to find his rhythm again and finish strong, leaning on his precise driver and irons to bounce-back and score lower than Matsuyama on Sunday.
Pick: Ludvig Åberg (-120)
