2024 U.S. Open Odds & Picks: Sahith Theegala
The U.S. Open is returning to Pinehurst No. 2 a classic Donald Ross design in the sandhills of North Carolina. Golf fans typically associate the U.S. Open with lightning-fast greens and thick, chewy rough that severely punishes errant shots. Pinehurst's greens will be slick, but instead of gnarly rough, sandy wastelands surround Pinehurst's fairways and greens, requiring players to be creative with recovery shots.
When the U.S. Open was last played at Pinehurst 10 years ago, Germany's Martin Kaymer crushed the field, finishing -9. Runners-up Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton finished -1. That only three players finished under par shows just how stern a test Pinehurst can be.
Will Scottie Scheffler build on a remarkable season by winning his second major of the year? Can Xander Schauffele win a second straight major after his victory at the PGA Championship a few weeks ago? Is the red-hot Rory McIlroy ready to win his first major in 10 years? Or will Pinehurst see a LIV Tour star such as Brooks Koepka or Bryson DeChambeau emerge triumphant?

Sahith Theegala U.S. Open Course History
Sahith Theegala was just 16 years old when the U.S. Open was last played at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2014, so this will be his first time competing at the North Carolina course. The American has competed in three U.S. Opens to this point, but he's missed the cut in two of them (2017, 2022). His best outing came last year at the Los Angeles Country Club, where the Pepperdine alum shot +2 (74-66-73-69), placing 27th.
Sahith Theegala Recent Form
This has been a very successful campaign for the up-and-coming 26-year-old pro. Theegala already has five top-10s in 2024, which includes a second-place finish at the RBC Heritage in April. He missed the cut at the RBC Canadian Open two weeks ago, but that effort was bookended by a pair of 12th-place outings at the PGA Championship and the Memorial, more recently.
Sahith Theegala 2024 U.S. Open Betting Outlook
I'm already locked in on Theegala to finish inside the top 20 (+225 at DraftKings). I'm also sprinkling in a top-10 bet at +500 (DraftKings). Theegala has such a high ceiling, which makes me think these plus-money payouts are worth a shot this weekend. He has five top-10 finishes over 15 tournaments this year (33.3%) and three additional top-20 outings (53.3%).
