2024 U.S. Open Best Prop Bets: Odds & Picks

It’s finally time for one of the best weekends of the year: Father’s Day and the U.S Open. Held at iconic Pinehurst #2 this season, the USGA has made the North Carolina course absolutely diabolical to play on. With all of the quirks that Pinehurst offers, there are some intriguing U.S. Open prop bets to consider

With extremely severe greens and trouble lurking for any missed fairway or approach, this could be the first major in quite a while that we see a winning score not in red figures.

We’re going to look at a few of the U.S Open prop betting markets that I like and see if we can nail down a solid week of prop betting.

Ludvig Aberg

Let’s start off with a nice simple finishing prop here. Aberg has been very impressive this season, in his rookie year on the PGA Tour. With his only missed cut this season coming at the PGA Championship a few weeks ago after hurting his meniscus, the young Swede has been incredibly consistent.

In his major championship debut at April’s Masters Tournament, Aberg exhibited a calm demeanor that you just don’t often see in players his age. He was able to put up a terrific week at Augusta National, finishing second and proving that he not only belongs on this stage, but can thrive.

He ranks second in my model this week, and his statistical profile is excellent for this course. Ranking top 20 in ballstriking, tee to green, bogey avoidance, and birdie or better categories just emphasizes his impressive course fit, and I believe he’ll easily finish inside the top 20.

2024 U.S. Open Prop Bet: Ludvig Aberg Top 20 Finish (-105)

Kurt Kitayama

Kitayama may not be the guy you want to rely on in his opening round this week. In seven opening rounds on extremely difficult courses and major conditions, Kitayama ranks 114th in this field. The 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational winner has played better at the majors this season, with two top-40 finishes, but has struggled in his three U.S. Open appearances, carding a 75, 74, and 70 in his opening rounds.

Kitayama is a strong player, but his game isn’t the strongest fit for a test like Pinehurst. He’s had some issues with driving accuracy, and while he has shown adept at scrambling from short grass (18th in the field), he struggles to avoid bogeys and ends up three-putting a lot of holes.

2024 U.S. Open Prop Bet: Round 1 Score Over 72.5 (-125)

Xander Schauffele

It is no secret that Schauffele always performs well at the U.S. Open. Ever since his first appearance back in 2017, he has finished inside the top 15 in every showing, and was top-ten in each of the the other six playings.

Xander is a stone-cold golfer, especially in opening rounds. In the 2024 season, he ranks second in Round 1 Scoring Average on the PGA Tour, and don’t forget that he shared the 18-hole lead with Rickie Fowler after each of them shot eight-under 62s at Los Angeles Country Club at last year’s U.S. Open.

When looking at very difficult courses in deep fields in Round 1s, Xander ranks fourth in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green. He is the only player on the Tour this season that ranks in the top 4o in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, Approach, Around the Green, and Putting. If there is anyone you’d want to put your money on, Schauffele is the guy.
