2024 Wyndham Championship: First-Round Leader Odds, Picks, & Predictions
The final PGA Tour event of the 2024 season, the Wyndham Championship, is set to tee off from Sedgefield Country Club on Thursday morning. It’s a par 70 that runs 7,131 yards and designed by Donald Ross, with narrow fairways and Bermudagrass greens that undulate and create difficult lies and putts.
It’s go time for golfers vying for a top-70 FedExCup ranking to qualify for the first of three FedExCup playoff events, starting at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee next week. The current betting favorite, Sungjae Im, is 12-1, followed by Billy Horschel (22-1), 2016 Wyndham Championship winner, Si Woo Kim (22-1), Shane Lowry (25-1), and Brian Harman (+2500) rounding out the top-five betting favorites in this field of 156 golfers.
In this article, I’m recommending a few golfers to target in the First Round Leader betting market at the 2024 Wyndham Championship. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more free bets and weekly analysis.
2024 Wyndham Championship Best First-Round Leader Bets
Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.
Si Woo Kim (+5000)
Si Woo Kim is tied for the second shortest odds at the Wyndham Championship, sitting at 22-1 in the outright winner market. 50-1 is great value for Kim’s prospect of cashing a First Round Leader bet on Thursday. He’s ranked 12th in SG: approach, which is a huge asset to hold at a precision course like Sedgefield, plus he’s 55th in Round 1 scoring average in 2024. Kim is fifth in total strokes gained in this field and third on approach, so let’s stake a 0.10 unit wager to grab five units of profit on the South Korean native.
Shane Lowry (+5000)
Another strong performer in the opening round at PGA Tour events in 2024, Shane Lowry also profiles as the best iron player in this field. The Irishman ranks first in SG: approach (+0.89) and third in total strokes gained. He’s averaging 69.81 in Round 1, sitting inside the top-50, so let’s sprinkle another 0.10 unit wager for five units on Lowry to rise to the top of leaderboard in Round 1.
Aaron Rai (+6000)
There’s a theme I’m going with for FRL bets at Sedgefield and it’s selecting golfers who gain strokes on approach and record low scores in Round 1. Aaron Rai fits this profile perfectly. The Englishman ranks sixth SG: approach in this field and eighth in Round 1 scoring average. 60-1 is even better value than Kim and Lowry, so let’s stake one more 0.10 unit wager on Rai to return six units of profit after another hot start at the Wyndham Championship.
Keith Mitchell (+8000)
Our last prospect can be a bit streaky, but Keith Mitchell is a great iron player and has averaged 69.79 in Round 1 this season. Mitchell has gained more strokes on approach than Si Woo Kim and Aaron Rai, sitting second in this field behind only Lowry. Yes, he’s only gone 2-under-par and 3-under-par in Round 1 during previous outings at this event, but at 80-1, I’m willing to invest another small 0.10 unit wager on Mitchell to wind up in contention for the outright lead on Thursday.
