2024 Wyndham Championship Golf Odds & Picks: Head-to-Head Matchups

The Wyndham Championship will be played at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina this week. It marks the final 2024 PGA Tour event before the three-week FedExCup playoffs get underway, so this field of 156 golfers will attempt to improve their FedExCup ranking to 70th or better. For those in the field already qualified, they’ll still want to fine-tune their game to ensure preparation.

The weather may be a significant factor due at Sedgefield CC this week, which is a par 70 course designed by Donald Ross, featuring average-sized undulating greens and narrow fairways comprised of Bermudagrass surfaces. Precision off-the-tee and on approach are imperative while putting gives a decisive edge to whoever has their flat stick heat up.

I’ve found a couple of 72-hole head-to-head matchups to wager at one unit each ahead of Thursday’s opening tee times at Sedgefield. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more free bets and weekly analysis.

Shane Lowry vs. Sungjae Im 72 Hole Matchbet

Oddsmakers have paired two of the outright betting favorites together in this 72-hole matchbet, so I had to wager this prop. Shane Lowry is 25-1 to win outright this week, while Sungjae Im is the outright betting favorite at 12-1. We’ve yet to see either golfer record an outright win at the Wyndham Championship, however, Lowry profiles as the better play this week.

The Irishman is the best golfer for strokes gained: approach in the field this week and also ranks third in total strokes gained (+1.27), sitting ahead of Sungjae Im. Lowry’s putter is a bit of an issue, but Im’s putting inefficiency also exists. At plus odds, Lowry is a value play in this matchup, since I believe he holds a decisive edge on approach that will keep his scorecard lower than Im’s by the end of Round 4.

Pick: Shane Lowry (+125)

Doug Ghim vs. Victor Perez 72 Hole Matchbet

We’ll pivot to another head-to-head matchup where there’s value based on oddsmakers being too bullish on Doug Ghim over Victor Perez. Ghim has previous finishes of T51 and two missed cuts since 2021 at Sedgefield. Meanwhile, Perez is making his debut at this event, playing fantastic golf with his current form.

Ghim is ranked top-ten SG: tee-to-green in this field, which is likely why he’s a slight favorite to win this matchup against Perez at -115 odds. However, Perez is 22nd total strokes gained this week, sitting ahead of Ghim due to his overall game. Ghim’s putting woes are further incentive to back the Frenchman, who nearly earned a podium finish at the Olympics last weekend.

Pick: Victor Perez (-105)
