2025 Masters Odds, Picks & Predictions: Best Head-to-Head Bets (Round 2)

The Masters opening round had everything golf fans could ask for, ending with veteran Justin Rose atop the leaderboard after a dominant opening round score of 65. Rose is followed by Corey Conners, Ludvig Aberg and Scottie Scheffler at 4-under-par.

Scheffler’s won two green jackets since 2022 and is the defending champion at Augusta National. He competed against Aberg down the stretch on Sunday last season, so seeing these two near the top of the leaderboard feels appropriate. Tyrell Hatton and Bryson DeChambeau also finished inside the top-five, shooting 69 while playing in ideal conditions.

Friday’s second round is forecast to have stronger winds, between 15-25 miles per hour, with a potential for light rain showers. The wind will add a hazard to an already challenging golf course like Augusta National. A lot of scores in Round 1 may not be fully obtainable in Round 2.

My Best Head-to-Head Bets (Round 1) finished 1-1-1 on Thursday. Daniel Berger and Sungjae Im each finished at 1-under-par (T11), resulting in a push, or voided wager. My lone plus-odds wager, Robert MacIntyre, got off to a good start. He’d wind up struggling after the first few holes and lost to Jordan Spieth by two strokes at +3. The winner was Collin Morikawa over Justin Thomas at -130 odds. Morikawa was playing well and in contention at 3-under-par before recording three bogeys on the final four holes. Despite these late mistakes, Thomas’ two late birdies on the final three holes weren’t enough to tie or beat Morikawa, finishing one stroke behind Morikawa at +1.

Aaron Rai vs. Harris English – 18 Hole Matchup – Round 2

Aaron Rai played well in Round 1 during his first appearance at the Masters. The Englishman jumped out to a red-hot 4-under-par start on the front-nine.

Three consecutive bogeys, including four total on the back-nine, derailed Rai’s momentum. Yet he did respond with birdies on the par 5 15th and par 4 17th to finish 2-under-par.

English has a lot more experience playing Augusta National compared to Rai. He’s playing in his sixth Masters, carding two top-25 finishes in 2021 and 2024. Rai hit all 14 fairways on Thursday, while English only found eight fairways.

It was the opposite on approach, with English hitting 16 of 18 greens in regulation. Rai found 11 of 18 greens in regulation, which is a 61 percent conversion rate, compared to 63 percent on Thursday. He’s very good with his iron precision, so I’d expect a bit more consistency on approach from Rai in windier conditions on Friday.

English surrendered nearly .3 strokes putting (1.83) to Rai (1.56), which will likely be the difference on the Bentgrass greens in Round 2. I like Rai’s overall game right now and if he can fuse his fairway accuracy with greens in regulation, he’ll remain in contention this weekend.

Let’s bet a unit on Rai to beat English in Round 2 at -125 odds.

Pick: Aaron Rai (-125)

Bryson DeChambeau vs. Ludvig Aberg – 18 Hole Matchup – Round 2

Bryson DeChambeau and Ludvig Aberg make for a compelling matchup to watch in Round 2. Aberg logged a solo runner-up finish behind Scheffler during his debut at Augusta National last year. Now, he’s coming off of a strong 4-under-par opener on Thursday.

Aberg went +1 in Round 1 a year ago. He’d proceed to shoot 69 twice in the final three rounds, while breaking par at 2-under-par or lower. He’s got a lot of confidence despite only playing this major for the second time.

DeChambeau looked like a contender in 2024 with an opening round 65 at the Masters. Then, he shot 73-75-73 to fall out of serious contention on Sunday. He flooded his scorecard with birdies on Thursday, finishing with seven birdies, alongside four bogeys.

Aberg’s scorecard was much cleaner in Round 1. The 25-year-old Swede recorded one bogey on the par 3 49th, while going 4-under-par across the last six holes to gain momentum heading into Friday.

Aberg hit 15 of 18 greens in regulation at a blistering 83 percent. He also found fairways at an 86 percent rate, 14 percent better than the field, hitting 12 out of 14 fairways off-the-tee. Putting average in Round 1 was 1.61.

DeChambeau found 12 of 18 greens in regulation at 67 percent, while hitting 79 percent of fairways. Putting was a 1.33 compared to 1.61 for Aberg. His bogeys were a result of sloppy approach shots and scrambling due to the difficult undulated Bentgrass greens.

I’m siding with the golfer who is better tee-to-green and has made fewer mistakes. While DeChambeau is a bomber off-the-tee and has more experience at this major, Aberg’s in a great rhythm and has shown minimal discomfort playing at Augusta National.

We’re landing some value on Aberg as a slight underdog in this matchup, so let’s back the Swede to continue hunting flagsticks. We’ll bet one more unit on Aberg to beat DeChambeau in Round 2 ahead of Friday morning’s tee time.

Pick: Ludvig Aberg (-110)
