2025 PGA Championship Odds, Picks & Predictions: Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy's thrilling victory at The Masters last month set up some compelling storylines for the second major of the season, the 2025 PGA Championship, which will be played this week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

McIlroy completed the career grand slam with his win at Augusta. If he wins again this week, he'll be halfway to a true grand slam. McIlroy has fared well at Quail Hollow throughout his career, having won four tournaments there. It's a course that favors big hitters — right up McIlroy's alley.

But McIlroy isn't even the favorite this week. That would be Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world. Scheffler cruised to an eight-shot victory at his most recent event, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Will golf fans be treated to a duel between McIlroy and Scheffler? Or will other top players intervene? Defending PGA champ Xander Schauffele is certainly capable of repeating. Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg have been hot lately. LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau has been frisky in recent majors, and other LIV players — Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Tyrrell Hatton and others — could contend.

Course History

Quail Hollow has been a home away from home for Rory McIlroy. He got his first PGA Tour win there in 2010 at the age of 20, rolling in a 43-foot birdie putt Sunday on the 18th hole to shoot a then-course-record 62.

McIlroy has since won three more Wells Fargo Championships at Quail Hollow. He smoked the field by seven strokes in 2015, breaking his course record with a third-round 61. McIlroy beat Abraham Ancer by one stroke in 2021 and ran away with last year’s Wells Fargo, winning by five strokes. In 2012, McIlroy lost to Rickie Fowler at Quail Hollow in a playoff. When Quail Hollow hosted the PGA Championship in 2017, McIlroy tied for 22nd.

Recent Form

It’s been a magical season for McIlroy. He kicked off his season with a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in early February, won THE PLAYERS Championship in mid-March and then finally earned his first Green Jacket with a thrilling victory at The Masters last month to complete the career grand slam.

In seven PGA Tour starts this season, McIlroy has finished no worse than 17th. He’s been fabulous with his driver and has been dialed in with his irons. McIlroy ranks first in strokes gained off the tee and second in strokes gained tee to green.

Betting Outlook: 2025 PGA Championship Predictions

As dominant as McIlroy has been at Quail Hollow over the years, it’s almost hard to believe he’s not the favorite this week. But his odds aren’t that much longer than those of favorite Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world.

Scheffler is +400 to win; McIlroy is +475. McIlroy offers a dreamy combination of excellent course history and superb recent form. Although his odds to win are short, McIlroy is a worthy investment at +475 odds.
