2025 PGA Championship Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sam Burns

Rory McIlroy's thrilling victory at The Masters last month set up some compelling storylines for the second major of the season, the 2025 PGA Championship, which will be played this week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

McIlroy completed the career grand slam with his win at Augusta. If he wins again this week, he'll be halfway to a true grand slam. McIlroy has fared well at Quail Hollow throughout his career, having won four tournaments there. It's a course that favors big hitters — right up McIlroy's alley.

But McIlroy isn't even the favorite this week. That would be Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world. Scheffler cruised to an eight-shot victory at his most recent event, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Will golf fans be treated to a duel between McIlroy and Scheffler? Or will other top players intervene? Defending PGA champ Xander Schauffele is certainly capable of repeating. Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg have been hot lately. LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau has been frisky in recent majors, and other LIV players — Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Tyrrell Hatton and others — could contend.

Course History

Quail Hollow hasn't been a fruitful course for America's Sam Burns, who has only finished inside the top 50 once in four attempts. Now, his best outing came in last year's Wells Fargo Championship, which hosts the tournament annually, where he placed 13th (-2).

Recent Form

Burns has been active in 2025, playing 13 events. He hasn't had many top-end finishes, but he has been a mainstay in the top 30 with seven top-30 performances. He's coming off a 30th-place outing at the Truist Championship last weekend, and he previously logged a fifth-place finish at the Byron Nelson. The latter was his best event of the 2025 campaign. It's worth mentioning that Burns has been the best putter on the Tour in terms of the SG: Putting metric (0.997).

Betting Outlook: 2025 PGA Championship Predictions

The inconsistency of Burns' play has me shying away from backing him at this weekend's event. When also factoring in that he's played Quail Hollow poorly in the past, he's a pass for me from a betting perspective.
