Rory McIlroy's thrilling victory at The Masters last month set up some compelling storylines for the second major of the season, the 2025 PGA Championship, which will be played this week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

McIlroy completed the career grand slam with his win at Augusta. If he wins again this week, he'll be halfway to a true grand slam. McIlroy has fared well at Quail Hollow throughout his career, having won four tournaments there. It's a course that favors big hitters — right up McIlroy's alley.

But McIlroy isn't even the favorite this week. That would be Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world. Scheffler cruised to an eight-shot victory at his most recent event, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Will golf fans be treated to a duel between McIlroy and Scheffler? Or will other top players intervene? Defending PGA champ Xander Schauffele is certainly capable of repeating. Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg have been hot lately. Quail Hollow last hosted the PGA Championship in 2017, and that wasn't Tommy Fleetwood's best performance at the course. He finished 61st with a +8 mark over the four-day Major event. However, Fleetwood has played the course three times in the last four campaigns, registering top-15 outings with each attempt. His best finish was a fifth-place effort (-11) at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship, which Quail Hollow hosts annually.

Recent Form

Overall, 2025 has been excellent for Fleetwood. He hasn't won a tournament yet, but he's been close with a trio of top-10 finishes. He has back-to-back top-10 finishes, including a seventh-place performance at the RBC Heritage and a fourth-place outing at the Truist Championship last weekend in Philadelphia.

Betting Outlook: 2025 PGA Championship Predictions

Tommy Fleetwood has played nine PGA events in 2025 and he's logged six top-20 finishes. When factoring in that he also has three consecutive top-20 efforts at Quail Hollow, I think it's worth playing him to finish 20th or better this weekend.
