2025 PGA Championship Odds, Picks & Predictions: Viktor Hovland

Rory McIlroy's thrilling victory at The Masters last month set up some compelling storylines for the second major of the season, the 2025 PGA Championship, which will be played this week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

McIlroy completed the career grand slam with his win at Augusta. If he wins again this week, he'll be halfway to a true grand slam. McIlroy has fared well at Quail Hollow throughout his career, having won four tournaments there. It's a course that favors big hitters — right up McIlroy's alley.

But McIlroy isn't even the favorite this week. That would be Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world. Scheffler cruised to an eight-shot victory at his most recent event, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Will golf fans be treated to a duel between McIlroy and Scheffler? Or will other top players intervene? Defending PGA champ Xander Schauffele is certainly capable of repeating. Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg have been hot lately. LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau has been frisky in recent majors, and other LIV players — Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Tyrrell Hatton and others — could contend.

Course History

Viktor Hovland has bagged his best Major finishes at the PGA Championship, finishing third in 2024 and second in 2023. However, take that information with a grain of salt, since the course differs on a yearly basis. The Norwegian has played this year's course, Quail Hollow, three times in his career, with his best outing being a third-place finish (-8) back in 2021. He also placed 43rd (-1) and 24th (+1) at the Wells Fargo Championship in the last couple years, which is hosted by Quail Hollow annually.

Recent Form

Hovland's 2025 campaign has been a bit bumpy, but it climaxed in March when he won the Valspar Championship and earned a $1.5 million payout. He followed up the win with a 21st-place finish at the Masters and a 13th-place outing at the RBC Heritage. Most recently, Hovland is coming off of a 54th-place performance at the Truist Championship last weekend.

Betting Outlook: 2025 PGA Championship Predictions

I don't really love Hovland's chances to win this tournament, even with a tempting +4500 payout. However, I will be placing a wager on him to record a top-30 finish, which pays -115 at DraftKings Sportsbook. Between his respectable finishes at Quail Hollow in the past and back-to-back top-five outings in the PGA Championship, a top-30 finish should be manageable for Hovland.
