2025 RBC Canadian Open Picks, & Predictions: Longshot Bets
We nearly won our first longshot bet of the 2025 PGA Tour season during the Memorial Tournament last week. Nick Taylor was available at 170-1 to post the outright win and held a brief lead with his dominant Round 2 finish, before settling for a solo fourth-place finish six strokes behind Scottie Scheffler.
Rory McIlroy is the current betting favorite at +450 odds ahead of Round 1 at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open. McIlroy returns to the PGA Tour after a two-week absence following his season-worst T47 finish at the PGA Championship. Without Scheffler in this field, there’s a lot of opportunity to find realistic longshot winners during the inaugural trip to TPC Toronto’s Osprey Valley.
Here are two golfers with longshot odds that warrant a small investment at the debut of this par 70 TPC Toronto course. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more free bets and weekly PGA Tour analysis.

Matti Schmid (+8000)
We’ve seen Matti Schmid begin to close in on his first career PGA Tour victory in the past six weeks. The 27-year-old German golfer recently carded a solo runner-up finish behind Ben Griffin during the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Schmid is 36th SG: Approach, 59th SG: Putting, 15th in driving distance and 38th at finding greens in regulation in 2025. He’s also 22nd proximity, 10th on approach shots from 200+ yards, and sits 10th in birdie average.
His short game around the green and driving accuracy are the biggest weaknesses in Schmid’s game right now. There are few golfers in this longshot 80-1 range without flaws and I think Schmid stands out compared to the rest.
Let’s bet a quarter unit (0.25) on Schmid to build off of recent success and record his first PGA Tour win at TPC Toronto’s Osprey Course during the 2025 RBC Canadian Open this week.
Ryo Hisatsune (+8000)
Ryo Hisatsune is another quality prospect available to bet at+8000 ahead of Round 1. The 22-year-old Japanese native has four top 10 finishes in 2025, including a recent T6 at Colonial Country Club during the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Despite seeking his first outright win on the PGA Tour, Hisatsune ranks 25th total strokes gained. He’s 45th SG: Approach, 16th scrambling, seventh sand save percentage, 24th scrambling from the rough and 14th in scoring average.
The driver has not been kind to Hisatsune this season. The same goes for his putter, which is why oddsmakers have him as a longshot to win the 2025 RBC Canadian Open at 80-1 odds.
Accurate irons and a strong short game around the greens is enough for me to bite on Hisatsune making a run at the top of the leaderboard at Osprey Valley this week. Let’s bet a 0.10 unit wager on Hisatsune to record his first PGA Tour win for eight units of profit in return.
