2025 US Open Picks & Predictions: Ben Griffin

The third major of the year, the 2025 U.S. Open, begins Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in Western Pennsylvania.

Oakmont is a classic U.S. Open venue with narrow fairways, overgrown rough, and lightning-fast greens. We'll once again get to see the famous "Church Pews" - the huge bunker bordering holes No. 3 and No. 4 that has rows of grass strips in the sand.

It will be a challenging test for the best players in the world. Will we get a head-to-head duel between No. 1 player in the world Scottie Scheffler, who won the PGA Championship last month, and No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who won the Masters in April? Or will LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau successfully defend his 2024 U.S. Open title?

The BettingPros Guide to the 2025 U.S. Open will drill down on all the wagering opportunities this tournament presents, taking a closer look at the top contenders for America's national championship of golf.

Read on for our 2025 US Open picks and predictions for Ben Griffin.

Course History

Ben Griffin is a debutante in the U.S. Open, so it’s a little difficult to get a handle on how he’ll fare at Oakmont. However, playing at this very difficult course with tight fairways, deep rough and challenging bunkers could be too much to handle.

Griffin missed the cut in his first four major events, so confidence isn’t high. However, he did post a T-8 at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte to burst onto the scene, at least for the casual fan.

Recent Form

After a missed cut at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson and a T-46 at the Truist Championship, confidence was not high that Griffin would do much in the PGA Championship, his first major of the 2025 season.

What a difference a few weeks can make. He was T-8 at Quail Hollow, including a 2-under 71 in the final round to surge up the standings. Griffin carried that momentum with a trophy at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial, before settling for a solo runner-up finish at the Memorial Tournament in his tune-up event for this major.

Betting Outlook: 2025 U.S. Open Picks & Predictions

Griffin steams in with three consecutive top-10 finishes, including one in a major, and he nearly had back-to-back victories if not for a final round 1-over 73 at the Memorial. One thing which is worrisome about Griffin this week is his lack of control off the tee, ranking just 101st on the PGA Tour, hitting 58.80% of 886 possible fairways.

Griffin will need to be far more accurate than that, or he could be headed home early. The good news is that he tends to rebound, ranking 30th in greens in regulation percentage (68.75%), and he is also an adequate putter.
