2025 US Open Picks & Predictions: Dustin Johnson

The third major of the year, the 2025 U.S. Open, begins Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in Western Pennsylvania.

Oakmont is a classic U.S. Open venue with narrow fairways, overgrown rough, and lightning-fast greens. We'll once again get to see the famous "Church Pews" - the huge bunker bordering holes No. 3 and No. 4 that has rows of grass strips in the sand.

It will be a challenging test for the best players in the world. Will we get a head-to-head duel between No. 1 player in the world Scottie Scheffler, who won the PGA Championship last month, and No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who won the Masters in April? Or will LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau successfully defend his 2024 U.S. Open title?

The BettingPros Guide to the 2025 U.S. Open will drill down on all the wagering opportunities this tournament presents, taking a closer look at the top contenders for America's national championship of golf.

Read on for our 2025 US Open picks and predictions for Dustin Johnson.

Course History

Not only has Dustin Johnson won the U.S. Open once before in his career, but he is the defending champ of the major the last time it was held at Oakmont Country Club back in 2016. While that might give bettors some incentive to back him, especially with some extremely long odds, it’s been nine years since that title, and Johnson has changed quite a bit since that memorable moment.

Recent Form

Johnson hasn’t been terrible in 2025 LIV tournaments this season, but he hasn’t been dominant, either. He has three top-10 finishes in the past five outings, though, and he has been rounding into form a bit. He was T-10 last weekend at LIV Golf Virginia at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. It’s a tall order for the 40-year-old Johnson to stun the world, but there are still symptoms of good golf in his game.

Betting Outlook: 2025 U.S. Open Picks & Predictions

Well, Johnson has played in two major PGA Tour tournaments this season, and he has missed the cut in both events. His most recent showing at Quail Hollow at the PGA Championship was a bit embarrassing. He tumbled to a 12-over 154, and he wasn’t even close to playing into the weekend.

Johnson also missed the cut at Pinehurst No. 2 in last season’s U.S. Open. He has made the cut in just two of his past seven major events. It isn’t completely pitch black on Johnson’s career, but the sun is rapidly setting. You can spend money better elsewhere.
