2025 US Open Picks & Predictions: Russell Henley
The third major of the year, the 2025 U.S. Open, begins Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in Western Pennsylvania.
Oakmont is a classic U.S. Open venue with narrow fairways, overgrown rough, and lightning-fast greens. We'll once again get to see the famous "Church Pews" - the huge bunker bordering holes No. 3 and No. 4 that has rows of grass strips in the sand.
It will be a challenging test for the best players in the world. Will we get a head-to-head duel between No. 1 player in the world Scottie Scheffler, who won the PGA Championship last month, and No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who won the Masters in April? Or will LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau successfully defend his 2024 U.S. Open title?
The BettingPros Guide to the 2025 U.S. Open will drill down on all the wagering opportunities this tournament presents, taking a closer look at the top contenders for America's national championship of golf.

Course History
This will be Russell Henley's first time playing in the U.S. Open at Oakmont. He did not play in the event when it was last held at Oakmont in 2016. But this year will mark his 11th time playing in the U.S. Open.
Henley’s first U.S. Open was in 2010 as a low amateur; he finished T-16. In his 10 prior appearances, he failed to make the cut three times, and finished in the top 20 three times, i.e., T-13 in 2021, T-14 in 2023 and his best finish - T-7 in 2024.
Recent Form
Henley, the No. 6 golfer in the World Rankings, has played in 12 tournaments this season, making the cut in 10, and finishing in the top 25/top 10 six times. His one win came at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Since then, he's missed the cut twice, finished T-30, T-46 and in the top 10 twice, including his last tournament (a T-5 result at the Memorial Tournament).
Betting Outlook: 2025 U.S. Open Picks & Predictions
Henley’s play at the first two majors has me concerned (he missed the cut in both). That makes me reluctant to pick him as a potential longshot to win. But when he plays good, he tends to play really well; hence finishing in the top 10 six times. I'd certainly take him to finish in the top ten (+350).
