2025 US Open Picks & Predictions: Sepp Straka

The third major of the year, the 2025 U.S. Open, begins Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in Western Pennsylvania.

Oakmont is a classic U.S. Open venue with narrow fairways, overgrown rough, and lightning-fast greens. We'll once again get to see the famous "Church Pews" - the huge bunker bordering holes No. 3 and No. 4 that has rows of grass strips in the sand.

It will be a challenging test for the best players in the world. Will we get a head-to-head duel between No. 1 player in the world Scottie Scheffler, who won the PGA Championship last month, and No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who won the Masters in April? Or will LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau successfully defend his 2024 U.S. Open title?

The BettingPros Guide to the 2025 U.S. Open will drill down on all the wagering opportunities this tournament presents, taking a closer look at the top contenders for America's national championship of golf.

Read on for our 2025 US Open picks and predictions for Sepp Straka.

2025 US Open Picks & Predictions: Sepp Straka

Stats to Know

  • DraftKings Odds to Win: +5000
  • World Ranking: 8
  • Best U.S. Open finish: 28 (2019)
  • Last four U.S. Open finishes: 28, MC, MC, 56

Course History

Sepp Straka has had a terrible showing at U.S. Open majors leading up to his Oakmont debut on Thursday. The Austrian does not have any top 20 finishes in four attempts, posting a T56 finish at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2024. Missed the cut in 2022 and 2023, with his best effort yielding a T28 finish at Pebble Beach in 2019.

Recent Form

2025 has been a resurgent year for Straka. He's carded two outright wins, including recently at the Truist Championship during a Signature Event. Ranks second in total strokes gained, including 11th in driving accuracy, while also leading the PGA Tour for greens in regulation at 71.4 percent. Despite these accolades, Straka has missed the cut in both majors this season.

Betting Outlook: 2025 U.S. Open Picks & Predictions

As good as Straka's been in 2025, I have doubts about him at Oakmont. Yes, he's very accurate off the tee and on approach, which should set him up for success. He's -105 to record a top 30 finish, while only +180 to miss the cut. Missing three cuts at majors is certainly in play, but I'm not going to tail or fade Straka this week. He's got the talent, but Oakmont is by far the most challenging course played at a major this season. I'm out on Straka, even after a solo third-place finish at the Memorial Tournament.
