2025 US Open Picks & Predictions: Tony Finau

The third major of the year, the 2025 U.S. Open, begins Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in Western Pennsylvania.

Oakmont is a classic U.S. Open venue with narrow fairways, overgrown rough, and lightning-fast greens. We'll once again get to see the famous "Church Pews" - the huge bunker bordering holes No. 3 and No. 4 that has rows of grass strips in the sand.

It will be a challenging test for the best players in the world. Will we get a head-to-head duel between No. 1 player in the world Scottie Scheffler, who won the PGA Championship last month, and No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who won the Masters in April? Or will LIV Tour star Bryson DeChambeau successfully defend his 2024 U.S. Open title?

The BettingPros Guide to the 2025 U.S. Open will drill down on all the wagering opportunities this tournament presents, taking a closer look at the top contenders for America's national championship of golf.

Read on for our 2025 US Open picks and predictions for Tony Finau.

Course History

This will be the 10th PGA US Open for Tony Finau, who owns a respectable five cuts made in nine appearances. The veteran is steeped in experience, and he gravely made his presence felt in this tournament last year.

Finau took home third-place honors in 2024, his strongest finish to date, with a score of -3. Finau has closed the weekend within the top 10 on three occasions at the U.S. Open Tournament. Oakmont was not very kind to the 35-year-old in 2016, where a +7 score resulted in a missed cut. Finau will no doubt be looking for redemption this time around.

Recent Form

Finau has played a ton of golf this year to date, participating in 14 tournaments since the start of 2025. Finau has missed four cuts over that span, with one top-19 finish, and four in the top-20. The veteran has placed 38th or better in his previous four contests, including a T-19 at the PGA Championship.

Finau owns a below tour average 58.75% in regards to driving accuracy, while ranking 123rd in scrambling. He's certainly going to have to improve in those numbers this weekend to keep from missing two consecutive cuts at Oakmont.

Betting Outlook: 2025 U.S. Open Picks & Predictions

Finau is currently listed at +10000 odds to win his first U.S. Open. While we believe that is certainly in the realm of possibility, given his struggles with driving accuracy and scrambling this season, that may be a little presumptuous.

Taking the odds at +1200 for a top-five finish or top-10 at +550 is certainly intriguing. However, taking a chance on a top-20 finish at +240 odds seems like a logical option. Finau has finished in the top 20 in two out of his previous four contests in 2025.
