Leg #1: Hungary +41.5 (-315)
Unfortunately, this is where the journey ends for a very tough Hungary team that wasn't supposed to make it this far. Hungary has now won three consecutive games after being absolutely blasted by France by 46 points. We don't expect to see that type of one-sided affair this afternoon. However, the chances of Hungary keeping this game close are ambitious.
We decided to run up the spread to 41.5. That should be enough cushion unless things are dreadfully bad from the start. Team USA is far and away the more talented team. Yet, we've seen very little chemistry from them - including almost losing to Italy in a game where they couldn't even score 60 points. There is no team in the world that should be holding the best players in the WNBA to fewer than 60 points.
We feel Team USA will advance to the semifinals. There's a very good chance they won't do so by 42+ points, though. You can also go the other way and drop some points to give Team USA a softer spread. It just seems logical that taking the points up to around 11 or 12 more may be the best way to approach this line.
Leg #2: Spain Moneyline (-205)
Australia lost another frontcourt presence with Ezi Magbegor going down in the first quarter yesterday. The Australian team was a blown layup away from going into overtime, after having a lead as large as 26 points. We merely witnessed one of the all-time complete meltdowns of this tournament. Australia was up 17 points with a little over seven minutes to go. That kind of mental collapse will not be remedied in under 24 hours.
Spain is currently the healthier and more talented team going into this contest. Australia has barely been hanging on throughout the entire tournament. You can take the points with Spain at -4.5; there's nothing wrong with that if you want to add a little extra return on your investment. We are going to take a safer approach and just back Spain straight up to win.
Leg #3: Germany Team Total 70+ Points (-120)
The team total of 70+ points for Germany is far too low given the importance of the contest and where it is taking place. Germany is not the type of team that is looking to take time off the clock and grind down their opponent. They are trying to score as many points as possible. Germany has scored over 70 points in three straight contests and has increased its scoring in each game over that span.
You probably want to bet this as early as possible. There's simply no way this can stand before the contest begins. Germany is averaging 83.7 points over the last three games - including 94 in their last contest against South Korea.
