    Argentina (-280) vs. Egypt (+900) | Draw (+370) | O/U 2.5 (+104/-128)

It was an absolute stunner on Friday, as the No. 2-ranked team in the FIFA World Rankings and the defending World Cup champ, Argentina, needed extra time to brush off pesky Cape Verde in the Round of 32. Cape Verde was the No. 64-ranked team in the world, but it certainly didn’t act like it.

Lionel Messi netted his seventh goal of the 2026 World Cup at 29′, and it appeared Argentina was about to roll. It was 1-0 at half-time, before Deroy Duarte struck for a goal at 59′ to level the match 1-1. The seesaw continues, as Argentina’s Lisandro Martinez scored at 92′ to make it 2-1, but Sidny Lopes Cabral reeled the defending champs back in at 103′, making it 2-2. However, a Cristian Romero header deflected off of Diney Borges at 111′ for a Cape Verde own goal, preventing the monumental upset. Argentina did dominate in possession, posting a 64% mark, while taking 10 shots on goal, to just five for Cape Verde.

Argentina was extremely accurate in the passing department, too, hitting 92%, connecting on 779 of 850 passes. It had 52 touches in the opposition box, to just 16 for Cape Verde. Both sides won eight corners, which was rather surprising. Argentina advanced by the skin of its teeth, and now it has to contend with Mo Salah and the surprising Pharaohs.

Egypt and Australia played to a 1-1 draw, and the match was decided on penalties. Emam Ashour scored at 13′, and it appeared Egypt was also going to roll. However, an own goal at 55′ by Egypt pulled the Socceroos even. Egypt went on to hit on all four penalties, including a shot by Salah, as Egypt won for the first time in five penalty attempts. It was also Egypt’s first-ever knockout victory at the World Cup.

Egypt was sharp, leading in possession with a 58% mark. It had three shots on goal, to just one for the Aussies. Egypt was decent on passing, hitting 85% (613-of-722), while it had 30 touches in the opposition box. It also had 36 accurate long balls, a strategy it is likely to try and employ against La Albiceleste.

The Cape Verde match is likely to serve as a wake-up call for Argentina. Egypt is going to be a tough out, but it barely survived against a mediocre Australia side. Look for Argentina to be reinvigorated, marching to a victory, but Egypt should be able to keep it within a goal. We’ll go high on the total, too. And, let’s go with a Messi Anytime Goal, grabbing a little action involving the legend.

Picks: Egypt +1.5 Goals (-140), Over 2.5 Goals (-105), Both Teams to Score - Yes (+134) & Lionel Messi – Anytime Goal (-145)

    Switzerland (+260) vs. Colombia (+125) | Draw (+200) | O/U 2.5 (+136/-168)

Switzerland pounded Algeria 2-0 in the Round of 32, its third consecutive victory since playing to a 1-1 draw against Qatar in the opening match of the World Cup. Meanwhile, Colombia eased past Ghana 1-0 in the Round of 32 to get here. After a 3-1 win against Uzbekistan in the opening match, Colombia has kept a clean sheet in three consecutive matches.

In Switzerland’s win over Algeria, Breel Embolo fired out of the chute with a goal at 10′ to set the tone. Dan Ndoye netted an insurance marker at 46′, and the Fennecs never had a chance. The Swiss had five shots on goal, to just two for Algeria, despite just a 44% possession rate. When the Swiss had the ball, they weren’t terribly accurate, hitting just 81% (355-of-438). Switzerland did a good job pressuring Algeria, however, posting 28 touches in the opposition box, to just 15 for the Fennecs, while winning four corners.

Colombia did a good job grabbing an early lead, as Jhon Arias netted one at 14′. Los Cafeteros appeared to be well on their way to a big offensive production, but there would be no more scoring. Colombia dominated possession at 61%, while completing 91% (532 of 586) passes. It had 19 touches in the opposition box, to just eight for the Black Stars, while posting 32 accurate long balls, to just nine for Ghana. It won just three corners, while Ghana won only two. Colombia has managed four corners won on average in four matches in this World Cup.

Let’s take Colombia to qualify for the next round, whether it is in full time or on penalties. We’ll also go low on the total. Additionally, Colombia is averaging 4.0 corners per match in this World Cup, while Switzerland has averaged just 3.0 corners per match in the past two outings after going for 10 corners won against Qatar and seven against Canada. Let’s go low on the corners.

Picks: Colombia To Qualify for the Next Round (-164), Under 2.5 Goals (-162) & Under 9.5 Total Corners (-172)
